Default Problems taking off

I have a herr p51 that I have finished building and now am trying to fly. Im flying off grass and am having trouble keeping the plane straight. Whenever the back wheel hits a rock the backend comes up just enough for the engine to pull the plane right. I cannot correct in time to keep the plane going. Is it possible to hand launch this plane or should I look at bigger tires?

What engine did you put in it? If you have a strong .051/.061 and it's built light, find someone that knows how to hand launch and try it. If you went for the .074, it should be no problem. It all depends on the weight, and how well your engine is pulling it. I have always left the gear off of little P-51's and just tossed them!!!

I have a .074. I have hand launch many electrics and I have about 500 throws on a zagi. I assume its pretty similar.

Default Toss it

If you havn't flown it yet have some one do it the first time, that you TRUST to launch it straight, be sure and check the trim on every thing this way if you have a trim problem on launch you have a better chance of flying out of it with both hands on the sticks, if no help is ava, then you just do 2 fast4u says GGGGoooooooo for it ,

I built the herr p-51 and it WOULD NOT FLY WITH A .061!

ditch the gear, and hand toss! with a .074 you may have enough power to keep it in the air, good luck!

P.S. I built mine LIGHT, cut corners where I could...... should be for at least a 10 size motor....

It built fast went smooth butbesides that I was not happy with it......

Default Problems taking off

Hey fellas, I just finished my Simple P51 last week and attempted to fly Sunday. I hand tossed and dorked it about 10 feet out. The little plane is hard to toss with out being able to grab around the center of gravity. After I put the wing block back in I'm going to try an under hand toss. If that is not sucessful has any one tried a catapult?

Maybe I will put the Magnum 15 back on in place of my Norvel for a verticle hand launch.

I watched a guy at the field try to launch a small spitfire on a catapult, 3 times unsuccessful. Smaller than combat size. He had a .25 in it. The plane seemed to torque over to the left every time he launched. He said he was running at about max, or close to it, throttle. Didnt get to try it throttled back. Third time had too much damage. I would be careful overpowering it. Just my observation.
