Pinned 'till the event.
Hey, all you Washington guys, it's not that far to come up to Mission! I double dare ya all!
I had a ball last year and I'm seriously looking forward to it again this year. I've even got myself one of those silly electric biplane flying wings to take you guys on in bumper combat...

My Grandparents live in BC, and my family alaways spends a week with them in the summer. I get back from fishing in Alaska on the 12'th so it might just work to take the trip the following week, then I can drop by on Sunday with a plane or too. What time do things wind down on Sunday? It would be fun to see some cool 1/2A's and meet you guys, I'll see what I can do.

Derek,
We'll probably be there until it gets dark. I'll send you a PM with my cell number if you need to get ahold of me.
Bruce,
I'm looking forward to "silly electric biplane flying wing" combat.
See if you can convince Goldguy Frank to come out this year.

John,
I'm the President of the Mission Wings club, so consider this an invitation to come up and fly some time. Judging by your web site you have some planes that would be very welcome at our scale fly in this August. Maybe it would generate some interest in starting a big bird event.

Lynden, eh? Yeah, I can see how that would be a bit of a drive now. Too bad about the club thing. There ARE a couple (one) of them that can get a bit BIG for their britches. If you make it up for a Mission day let me know and if I can make it out to say Hi I'll be there with bells on. I the meantime it looks like I'll be going down to Redmond on June 19 for a woody glider meet.

A pretty light turnout for the event's first day. Hopefully it'll perk up for the second day.
I've got some pics to post but it'll have to wait until mid week as I'll be away for a short trip.

It was a real pleasure to finally meet ANDREW and BRUCE! Their field is like a golf course putting green in the middle of a majestic evergreen background. These guys have models that are like flyable museum pieces. Bruce put on a great show with his single channel bird, this plane flies so well, I did not realize it was missing an elevator until it was pointed out to me! Andrew had a complete airforce of fantastic performing little stuff from .010 up to .074 to drool over. For me it was a new experience to see a screaming .010 rip through the sky like it did, and his TD.020 LITTLE RASCAL with throttle control was very impressive, COX missed the boat on this combo! I saw a fellow CL combat flyer put on a nice show with his .09 diesel powered planes, if you want great throttle control and power, plus 15 minute flights out of an ounce, this is the way to go. I want to thank you all for your hospitality, and for the great time. Can you believe that it was 90+ degrees in CANADA, and it's only JULY?

There wasn't a very big turnout this year, but fun was had by all. It was great to meet you too Chuck. You certainly gave us a clinic on speed deltas and the Dragon Rapide was awesome! I had as much fun trying Bruce's rudder only plane and Chuck's blazing fast delta as flying my own stuff.
On Sunday, Ragwing made the 6 hour trek to put in a few flights. He's a top notch modeller and a heck of a nice guy. He brought his Lockheed Altair from this years design contest, what a little beauty! He also brought his Buzzard Bombshell and put in several nice flights.
Thanks for coming guys and feel welcome to visit any time.
There were also a few electric flyers from the nearby clubs who showed us some of the latest in e-power. Great flying planes with plenty of duration, but they didn't sound or smell quite right.
Pictures to come soon.

Well it's 11:43pm and I walked in the door a few minutes ago-that was a lot of driving-but well worth it. It was a pleasure meeting Andrew face to face, along with all the other members of his club. The Mission Wings club really does have a beautiful flying site, I'm sure Andrew and his crew have put in a lot of time into the maintenance of their field-and it shows! Neat aircraft were flying almost all the time, and there were always interesting conversation. You would have to see Andrew's Rascal to really appreciate how cute it is, and the throttling on that TD is amazing! I'm sorry to have missed Combatpigg and BMathews, but maybe next year? I know I will certainly make an effort to be there and I would encourage anyone in the region who can spare the time to try and make it.
Special thanks to Andrew for all the work he must have put into the event, and also for the hamburgers It was a fun day.

HI RAGWING! How much did ANDREW charge YOU to fly? I had to pay $10 per flight, but it was worth it! Being the only AMERICAN up there [at the time] kind of made me uneasy, it's not easy to be the only guy who DOESN'T have an accent! Sorry I couldn't stay so we could meet, I had to choose between you, or picking my wife up at SEATAC airport. Too bad you didn't meet BRUCE, that is like trekking to OZ and not seeing THE WIZARD! See ya next year, CHUCK

I guess Andrew was feeling kind, no fees. Except for that $50 for the rental of two .020 head shims, err wait, that was an insurance deposit. Nevermind
I would really like to meet more people on the forum face to face, maybe next year. Sorry to hear about your accident Chris, I hope things work out for you.

Bipeflyer-
Sounds like everyone had lots of fun. I will try and make it next year.... should only be about a 4-5 hour drive from Vancouver WA.
Just moved up here from AZ in March... getting ready to build something.

RE: Mission Wings 2004 SMALL fly in - PICTURES!
I'm sorry I missed showing on the Sunday but the trip I was on got started a bit late and I didn't have the time buffer I thought I'd have to drop in for a few minutes.
Ragwing, sorryy I missed you. Bipe the pic of you and the Rascal just after launch came out great. How the H_E_Double Toothpicks did you get your fingers back on the stick so fast? It looks more like a flyby pic than a launch pic!
OK so here's my pics. I thought I'd taken a few more than this but I guess with picking up other folks' cameras for them I got bamboozled. The key element of my shoot was Paul Dranfield's electric Spitfire. This model really got my enthusiasme riled up. Simpel sheet but a super nice flyer. THIS is what parkflying should be all about instead of foam winged stick stuff. Oh well, I guess we live in an (b)ARF infested world.....
Pics 1,2 and 3 are of the Spit and the results of a botched launch immediatley after taking the first two pics. I guess there really IS something to that rumour about a camera stealing souls... [] But on a happy note due to the simple sheet construction he Zapped the damage together within the hour and flew again only to have an undiscovered crack in one wing result in a ripped off panel 1/2 way through the flight. Oh well.....
Pic 4 is a couple of hard working commentors safely hiding from the sun under the generous canopy. They did fly but spent the lion's share of the time as you see here...
