You need to get in touch with Colmo-RCU, he had success in converting a Guillows Zero. He has not been around here in a while, you may be able to email him.

That Zero was 27 inch span (I read the first part of the thread) but that's a lot more than 17 inches. THis is not a very good idea especially if you're not that good a pilot. It'll come out much heavier than the tiny wing can support in any meaningful way.
Not recomended but if you carry on I'd like to come and see the first (and last) flight.

I didn't notice the 16 inch wingspan in the title. That would not be a good idea to put a .049 on that small size.
You would have better luck with one of the House of Balsa kits instead of a Guillows.

I have a cessna 'bird dog' kit in a different series and looking at that thing, the only safe hope for some kind of piston-powered rc would be using a CO2 motor. I think the force of just cranking an .049 would maim the little thing. Maybe if the .049 were mounted on a ply firewall with a tab sticking out so the firewall tab could be clamped in a vice for starting the engine, one flight could be made.. one spiraling epic looping straight-up flight, followed by a yard dart landing after the tissue covered wings tear away.. sounds kinda fun actually..
