MEK or laquer thinner or acetone should be able to break down just about anything. Old covering comes off with a heat gun, and the old adhesive residue comes off with lots of rags, solvent and patience. At some time you have to decide if all this is worth doing VS starting from scratch. If you do a careful dissection of the old parts, it isn't that hard to make a new kit.
