Actually, Venoms are probably the second most rare of production C*x engines. (The special run of Medallions for the National Free Flight Society being the most rare). Prices have run into the $150+ region, I recall.

Of course, things like a Conquest 40 would be almost priceless! Can you say "Van Gogh"?

Larry, a buddy of mine picked up a cox conquest that was dieselised at the Toledo show (at the MECA collecto after the show) two years back, from a long time diesel collector's wife who was selling his stuff after he passed away. Story was it was some kind of prototype team race or something Cox was tinkering with. Never seen another before or since. It wasnt a home made cheepie, I think I can tell. Ever hear anything of it??

I'm with Bill on this one, paying $200 for a Venom - well, you really want to have to want that engine for your collection...

I was just letting the dude know what he had so he could maybe change the heading on the auction. The engine is worth alot of money to the right people. A Venom holds the Mouse 1 C/L record last time I knew! Anything under $150 for it out of box IS a good deal.

I still dont see how you can look at it and tell it is any different from say a blackwidow, other than color, but its still not as cool as the Red Devil RB .049 Tim made for me

Dieselized Conquest .15s are easily acquired since MECOA still makes the engines, and Davis still makes the heads.

However, if the one you saw was a .40, that has got to be pretty much one of a kind. I heard that fewer than a dozen of the .40s were produced and none sold, they were sent to very special modelers like Doug Galbreath for testing (he promptly set a record with it, if I remember correctly)

Wasnt a Davis head, absolutely not, and none of my long time MECA friends (guys that literally started the organisation back in the 60's) had ever seen one like it.

Anyway, it was just really neat

And to think that during a weak moment I actually contemplated getting into the engine collecting thing and was going to speciallize in 049's. I'm sort of glad that sanity returned quickly.....

Wait until Dan Vincent sees this..... poke! poke!
