Well I went "mental" at the LHS today..I got the RIGHT stuff BABY..I can see side by side the penalties ,that would have accompanied the larger equipment ,I was going to use..You can see it, on just the servos.. 4 micros are nearly the size of, 1 standard size servo.I haven`t done the math, but it`s a large weight savings..I`m a little upset that ,I buy a 4 channel radio "SYSTEM",and they only give you 2 micro servos in that "system".That kind of math doesn`t work for me..HOW many servos do you get if you buy a 2 channel system?? 1, or none..The other peeve I`ve got, is, with the reciever.I know what they are doing ,with the pin connections on the receiver is fine for the larger scale planes..It`s like the engineers forgot what they were designing this receiver for..What dosn`t make sense is that this is micro stuff,4 channel s but only 4 pin sets. Channel 4, is also the battery port.Again thats fine for the larger stuff but to do a 4 channel hook up, you have to buy a Y harness, and "T" the servo in, with the battery.So,right away you are adding weight, just so you can use, all the channels. .Wouldn`t it make more sense to just have a seperate battery port,instead of forcing a person who is obviously going to use a system like this ,for its weight savings?THIS could have been designed onto the p.c. board very easily....

Bipe would you like to make up a drawing, for a servo tray, for the TRAINER .Or would you like me to come up, with something and then scan it before I put this together.I haven`t been doing much work on this, the last few days ,but I will,tommorrow again..

1 other thing ihave 2 Futaba s3101 ,and,2 Hitec HS-81 .Do you have a recommendation of which servos`, where??...DAVE B.

The excuse (reason?) the micro four channel rx now have only four ports and no separate pair of pins for a battery is because most of the market for those radios if for electric powered planes, and the rx will get power from the battery eleminator circuit in the electronic speed controller. Thus we micro gassers have to use the y adaptor or hack a servo lead.
Thank goodness for the electric 3-d craze, the price and availability of itty bitty servos is amazing.

Good stuff Dave! You are going to save nearly half a pound in radio gear, if you can believe it.

I guess the radio manufacturers figure nobody uses the rudder and electrics don't use a throttle servo, so 2 servos are good enough. What bugs me is that nice little switch you bought which doesn't have a charge lead. If you have to unplug the battery to check it before each flight, then you don't really need a switch. I splice a charge lead into mine so I don't have to take the wing off to check the battery.


The HS81s and the s3101s are comparable as far as the specs go, with the Hitecs being a little faster. I don't think it really matters which ones go where.

Go ahead and make a tray and scan it.

.Yes ,just looking at these parts side, by side ,with my larger stuff,everything is nearly, 1/4th the size ..I can really,see how these things can make or break, a well built 1/2A plane,now..IT really is, DINKY little toy parts, huh...ALL I have to get ,for the kids, is the trainer cord now.KINDA had to go in to next years hobby budget, to finish off this years projects[sm=greedy.gif][sm=greedy.gif.Oh well at least the trainer, will be put together right,and I won`t have to go, to the school of hard knocks ,on this project..even got color correct tip ties .YOU didn`t notice,[] BIPER..

Hi Guys,

I just received a copy of the Jr. Falcon, Jr. Skylark, and Ranger 42 Plans from Goldberg. I will be working on the Falcon first I think. But first I have to complete my 1/2A version of the Miss Bikini. I don;t have a digital camera right now but I will take photos of the completed plane and if someone is interested in putting the plans to CAD and posting here. I'll send them a copy of my hand drawn plans. The Goldberg plans will be mondernized to save weight.

I broke my wrist getting thrown from a horse I was breaking so I'm a little slow typing and building.... But should complete the Miss Bikini in another week.

..I don`t know what I did, to that tray I scanned before ,it came out GIGANTIC,sorry .Here`s my, sliding servo,servo tray..ALONG with threaded rod ends, and clevis`s,, It should be very easy, to set up the cables now...

I was thinking ,I can balance (set) left, and, right cables, on each servo arm, with the threaded clevis`s ,and then the overall tension, with the slide .The sandpaper just keeps things from slipping once the nut,and ,washer are tightened (clamped),on the track.I thought this would help, take the Fuss, out of the set-up.Also for adjusting the threaded clevis ,I can slide the servo back, unhook at the,aileron/rudder horn, spin the cable,re-hook it,tension-up and check for equal lengths.If the servo doesn`t slide I wouldn`t be able to un-hook the lines, without undoing the servo arms from the servo to release the tension..Do you think, I`ve over engineered this ,Andrew???

If it makes it easier to setup, then great. I was just curious. I'd be tempted to put a drop of CA on the clamp screws after it is setup to prevent them from backing out.

When you setup the pull-pull wires, they shouldn't be so tight that you can't disconnect the clevis from the horn easily. You just want the lines tight enough to take out any slack, not tensioned like a guitar string.

I knew you shouldn`t be able to play a tune on the cables.I`ve not done, a complete set-up yet,but if I find that ,this is not necessary, I also have the NON-sliding pattern, for a servo tray here and will go that route.I`ll give it the "real-world ,set-up, test",and if it`s,NO help,I`ll change it...

HI Bipe,

I looked at the link and wished I had seen it sooner. Then I would have saved myself a few bucks.... But I now have a set of CAD drawings and the "real thing" as well.

The Miss Bikini is coming along great. I hope to have her finished in a couple weeks. I will be building two of these ships. One using the color scheme in the original article (it looks really hot!) and another using an alternate color scheme. I will be powering one ship with a Norvel 0.061 and the other with a Wasp 0.061.

I kept the airframe outline of the original ship but altered some of the fuse construction both, to keep it simple and to use what I had on hand. The first ship uses ACE foam wings but the second will use built-up wings and the original airfoil.

As for the jr. falcon, any pointers? I want to build a twin skylark as well using 0.061s. But I have a A-26K Invader I also want to build this winter. So I am not sure which I'll complete first.

I'll share pics when I'm done with each project...

On the Jr. Falcons that I've built I set the wing inicidence, tail and thrust to 0 and I added ailerons. This really makes it a great performing plane.

Hi Bipe,

Looks like a great flying little airplane. I've always been found of the falcons... I was thinking about setting everything to 0... Tell me how did you add the ailerons? Did you simply cut the T.E. stock or did you add a T.E. beam and use the T.E. stock as the aileron?

The wings and horizontal stab are sheeted foam with a balsa stick TE and TE stock for the ailerons. I took out about half of the dihedral.

THE bottom of the landing gear mount..screws used as clamps..I was thinking about velcro to mount the receiver and as a vibration isolator,opinions please or should that still be wrapped in foam??

Velcro will work fine. A lot of guys use it for mounting receivers.

hmm HOW WELL DOES THAT WORK bipe???I`LL STICK TO THE RUBBERS.GOT THE DOWEL HOLES MADE ALREADY.. how about the velcro idea has anyone heard of that being tried..I kind of like that idea cause I`ve got lots of experiance with it ..THATS how I put my shoes on
