Tweedy - sent you a PM on this plan.

I've build both the Tri-Squire and the 'Lil Tri-Squire and they both flew great. Looks like another to put on the to-do list. Hmm, I've got my old Sterling Mini-Mambo hanging right behind me - wonder how good it would be to upgrade to todays standards? Not as gentle as the LST would be, but maybe a fun second or third plane for a newbe or to learn single channel on.....

Hey D Bronk, i got my balsa and have started building , ive got two questions for you 1) how did you do your wing tips, was it a bit of sheet 1/16th balsa allong the center of the outer ribs with the spars angled down/up to the edge (a pic would be great if you had one) and 2) what type of servos did you use ie. micro, mini or regular and would i be able to use regular size servos or will they be to big/heavy for the plane

thanks

ps. i included a pic of my wing at its current stage

I beleive the tips a like the sketch, you'll have to freehand the tip ribs as the profile isnt given , I'ed say make them from 3/32

See this post for the wing tips. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3337578 Then scroll down 2 posts to see them built.

The tip shape is shown on the plan. 3/32" is good.

Dave,

I've just been re-reading through this thread and I have to say that you're really doing a great job. Lots of patience and perseverance to do a quality job and everything from scratch, including custom skis. The photo documentation of the process is going to be greatly appreciated by anyone who builds this plane.

Actually, the input from everyone has really brought this project along.

Actually all I need to do is cover it, get it balanced, but I am reading up on how to cover http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...?article_id=67 also my engine is on backorder so long story short project on hold for a bit, but watching this thread very close. For me it was tough at the beginnig not even knowing the names of the different parts, but looking back it was an easy and fun build (the wing was the hardest) now all I want to do is build

Dave have you maiden yours yet?

Tweedy, thanks for making those plans available.

BACK on track again.Screw-up,is straightened out.My intentions for the lines through the firewall ,was to use NO silicone etc.to seal the lines ,from having fuel seep around them..I drilled a slightly undersized hole fuel proofed the 2 holes, and pushed the lines through, for a friction fit.Worked perfectly ,except, I put the hole for the pressure line right dead center of the engine mount ,Exactly in line with the ,music wire ,front landing gear[:@].FIXED it, by useing a brass tube ,and SNAKE-ING, it around the music wire..

Well it appears all she needs is a bit of fuel and a glow plug igniter. Where is the link to the maiden video?

Lookin' good. You're going to run out of excuses not to fly pretty soon.

Here's a tip that'll save you some hassle on fuel tanks, especially when using a third line. I used to use the Sullivan tanks, but I switched to Hayes because they are easier to setup and the stopper takes up very little space. Just plug the lines in and go. No cutting and bending brass tubes.

DB –

Out of curiosity, why your running a 3-line fuel system instead of a 2-line?

Fly BUG,, LINK to a maiden ,hopefully in 2 days,TAXIING runs for sure Got to let castor oil cure in the cylinder for 24 hrs..that reminds I`ve got to wash the engine out ,and do that..3 year warranty from SIG so I better follow the instruction sheet.I would like this MILL,to last ,at least that long,if possible..

ANDREW Nice tank.I started useing GREAT HOBBIES,they`re good.I Ordered an engine Monday AFTER buisness hours . I got it yesterday. No CREDIT card needed got it COD.I`ll be useing them a lot, in the future. The same engine in Winnipeg $30.00more not includeing fuel .Thanks for that ADDRESS. way back when

HOG ,The plane is for my nephews .I want them to be able to ,Fill`er up ,without them burning fingers ..I don`t like CRYING..FOR now ,all I want them scared of ,on this plane is, the Propellor..Thats why the EXTRA fill line, away from hot danger.

I `ve been doing some final touches to the engine mount.GOT to cut the firewall bolts yet.Put some more padding ,under the hood I`m checking the balance, with every step, I do..have to mount reciever, actually A few loose ends to look after BUT yes ,I`m running out of Excuses, NO DOUBT about it

Default RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

That is a great rx mounting, but it worries me some in the way it can transfer engine vibrations to the circuit board via the solid contact of that former and the servo connector shells.

In my day, my instructor had me wrap the rx with some fairly thick and heavy closed cell foam. (late 1970's)

Modern receivers may not be as subject to damage due to exposure to vibration as the old ones were, with the 'through hole' components standing tall on the circuit board, which could possibly resonate and crack a solder joint or printed circuit trace, but some isolation of the airframe from the rx is still probably a good idea on an engine powered plane.

I think you could just move that bigger rear block back or trim it to make some room and add someting soft to the former for the servo connector shells to press against, like the 'loop' part of some velcro or a bead of silcone glue, or a scrap of fuel line, also padding the crystal end balsa block. ... Just something to isolate the vibrations of the engine from the printed circuit board.

It's right clever though the way you have the servo connectors trapped like that.

I like how the rx is up at the top of the fuse, so solid and neat!

So maiden tomorrow!?
