West Coast/region SMALL meet
Is there any interest for a West Coast / Region SMALL meet.
Maybe not right on the coast but Pheonix - Lake Havasu - Reno - Las Vagas.
The weather this time of the Year (Winter) is perfect for model airplanes. Usually no rain... 70F to 80Fand Dry ( No humidity).
To late of course for this year but now would be the time to sow the seeds with your club Presidente and CD. Have a swap meet at the same time. Could make money for your club.

SMALL on the West Coast... Great Idea....I'd be there.
There are a few names on the forum that are in the WA/OR area that need to meet each other.
See if you can work on your flying buddies.....no snow or ice in the desert that time of year... But...
Like the 'Wag said .. You need a club to get involved.
Basic requirements are a FIELD. And a Contest Diretor.
They get one hundred pilots at the Little Rock event...
There has to be one hundred 1/2A flyers on the West Coast who need a break from the cold and "iffee" flying weather to make a successful event.
Accomodation and food is cheap at the Casinos too.

I'd be there!
I've been trying to get a SMALL event off the ground, if you'll pardon the pun, for the past few years, but attendance hasn't been great.

I had heard that a group from San Diego tried such an event a few years ago. Was very good attendance, but for some reason there were only a couple of events and then none again.
Don't forget to invite Don of House of Balsa, as 1/2A is his main line-up.
Gee, I gat a batch of 1/2 powered A/C to get all of your impressions on.

Time to beat on the West coast SMALL drum again,, We had so much fun at the Sky Tigers 15th SMALL event this W/end. There were 88 registered pilots for the event flying every thing from 6 inch indoor Corsairs to electric Starships, PeeWee powered motor sailers to Larry Driscoll's Cyclon powered R/C combat weapon.... Plus a whole host of other aeronautical fantisies and mis-fits.
There has to be 88 or more SMALL flyers west of Pheonix who could use a W/end of this com'radery.
Would your club consider holding one of these Fun Filled Fund raisers?
How about mentioning it at the next meeting.
PM me or post your thoughts or ideas of whose buttons we could push or where a gathering might be able to be held.

I guess I missed this topic first time through. A SMALL in southern Washington to the upper half of Oregon would be great. Pheonix is quite a hike for us nor'westers as would be Reno but I'd go as far as that if need be. Even southeastern Washington in the Richland area would be fine.

S. Washington or N. Oregon at the right time of the year would work.. Further south you can go would draw perhaps some LA people. I-5 is a straight shot. I lean more to the dessert (Vagas or Reno) because from October till March there is less chance of rain, real mellow temps during the day, accomodation is cheap.

Don't forget that for those further north we have a SMALL fly in at the Mission Wings field in Mission BC on July 16th and 17th.

I spoke with one of the local clubs' elders about hosting a SMALL event today. He said he would run the idea past the club. I wouldn't expect it to be much more than a place to meet and do a little bit of sport flying. I WOULD like to find a place where 20 to 30 guys could show up, and take part in some combat, racing, fun fly for points, that type of thing. For those who just want to burn fuel, room for that also. To make something like this worthwhile for travelors and others who just want to fly, fly, fly, it should be held over 2 days on a 3 day weekend. I'm still going to snoop around, there are a few landowners around here who might open up a hay field for a couple of hundred bucks.

Steve (Skaliwag) mentioned the idea of a West SMALL get together in Las Vegas during the winter months for all us Westerners. Would be a great get away for a "sunshine" break from the NW winter.
Looks to be about a 12 hour drive from here in Vancouver, WA near Portland. I would definitely be game since it would not coincide with SMALL in Little Rock in June (we all had a great time this year). Winter is a great time of year in LV along with a great venue to enjoy while there at the same time.
Definitely worth the effort to get together, hangar talk, and of course flying. I still can't get over how friendly everyone was along with their creativity at the Little Rock SMALL this year - fantastic.
You should have seen some of the indoor flying, especially some of those micro scale models like Scott Christiansen's Waco and Beech Staggering - simply impressive. Scott is definitely the craftsman and flier.
