Matt,

No worries bro! There is more than just eBay out there AJC makes them last I knew plus you can order them straight from Davis Diesel Development and Cox may well still sell them too.

Later,
Tim

Yeah, you're right......I put a bid on one of the e-bay offerings, but I won't pay more for an e-bay tool than one of AJC's. The problem with direct order from DDD is their $9.95 shipping on retail orders, on top of the $12.95 list price, makes for one expensive little tool! They may make 'adjustments' to shipping charges on such a small order, I honestly don't know. Last I checked with cox a few months ago, they weren't carrying the reset tool, again, I don't know for sure. I'll get my rod reset tool one way or the other. I just hope your order didn't clean Cox right out of engines before I submitted mine!

Tim,

You answered your own question. For one the engine will not run as good, be harder to start and so on. Plus if you get enough slop in the socket the rod can slam through the piston top....that will leave a mark! I remember the first time I used a reset tool. The engine was a great running motor but then it started running like junk. I had just bought a reset tool at the time but had not used it. Once I did the engine was right back to normal.

Matt,

I am sure there is plenty of them left for others WHAT $10.00 for shipping that is bull!

Later,
Tim

Tim W,

yup, $10, right off the latest price sheet. I'm pretty sure that ebay user 'dmpddd' currently offering reset tools is non other than davis model products/davis diesel development, so if they will ship ebay purchases for 4.95, they may do so for retail if the customer asks nicely, who knows?

Thanks Tim, Do you know of a site where I could see a cut away or exploded view of some of our Cox engines? I'm totally in the dark in reading some of you guys posts about engines. Basically all I've ever done is fuel 'em up and fly. Well, I have changed a glow head or two. Thanks Tim

Hey guys, just FYI...

My wife works with banking compliance in the areas of bank fraud and identity theft. I discussed with her some of the concerns I had read RE Estes 'unsecure' site. It is incredibly common for sites to simulate or piggy-back real online order sites in order to gather information for identity theft. More so with email type scams but they are seeing it move to more sophisticated venues.

Anyway I put in a call to Estes. Mrs. Ann Grimm assured me that their site is a secured site, and is encrypted through a service called 'Verisign'. She said to just give her a call with any concerns and she could discuss it with us. 1-800-525-7561, ext 270.

All you guys that have already ordered, Rest easy.. And with that, I'm a goin' ta place my order!

Is the "Piston Ball Socket Tool and Holding Fixture" on Davis Diesel's website the same tool we're talking about here?

Hey Tim, I downloaded a program that's supposed to transfer dwg files to jpeg. gif etc. I don't know if it works, as I don't have anything to try it with yet. Thanks. Tim

To view DWG files:
Go to the Softdesk website and get VoloView, it lets you view and print .dwg files.
I liked Whip! better, but it has been "de-listed". It was a much smaller prgram.
Neither lets you do much other than view and plot the files. Get TurboCAD if you want full
CAD capabilities for small $$$.

Tim,

Thanks for the confirm on the socket reset tool. Didn't someone say that "AJcoholic" was making and selling these too? Maybe he'll chime in here and let us all the know if he has any for sale.

I'll look into acquiring one soon.

Don't know, but what I do know is that "You let too many people in on a good thing and they'll wreck it for everybody"(grin).
Reference the shutdown of the great free plans sites. So better strike while the iron's hot.

You guys are going to put me in the poor house. The last time I saw an engine at this price was a Cox Black Widow from Tower and it went for $7.95. I was going to order 12 of the little engines, but could not come to grips with the price. It was just eating at me. I ended up ordering 24 engines and now I have to order balsa wood do I have building material, more servos, props, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Does it ever end!!! I hope not.

Hey, it may not make much difference, but in case it does, if any one feels like it, and any other meek sounding thing I can say without sounding like I'm giving an order-
Let's thank Estes/cox for making available this engine at this price:
http://www.coxmodels.com/cgi-bin/contact.cgi

There may be someone actually reading the emails, as I sent one thanking them and letting them know about all the problems we were having with the shopping cart/security/page-not-found when using any browser other than IE.
Today i checked, and now all the browsers I tried with the site work right.

If we all ask, maybe they will start making muffler/throttles (like the RCbee had) again! The 'mapes' muffler?

Let's ask Estes to offer a similarly sweet deal on the TD engines.

meowy,

As much as I love COX engines if I was in the need of a beam mounted engine I would get a NORVEL. A much easier handling engine compared to the Tee Dee.

As for thanking them ..sure thanks Estes. Hey even at the $6.00 each shipped they are still making money if not they wouldn't have done it. I am pretty sure the day Newtech ( he's the one to thank)posted this for us was close to the first day the promotion was out as that same day it was posting in all my regular forums that I look at all by different people.

Tim

You gotta leave out the word 'cox' on the search;
see 5962197222 auction.

Same exact deal.. well sorta-- it has the entire cox site's ad pasted there, but the sale is set up as an auction, not buy-it-now with multiple units available, like i'd expect..

Yeah, and the sad thing is that someone will probably pay way more than $4.99 for it at the end of the auction...
