I don't know about MICROLITE hinges, but I tried TYVEK hinges and they are light and work well. It is flimsy stuff and it takes patience to work it into the slits in the wood. I still have a partial 12 foot wide roll of it [left over from building my house] in the wood shed, so it should keep me in hinge material for at least another couple of years.

Can't wait for the flight report, it should be an excellent addition to the stick brotherhood!

You don't really need a 280 battery, half that would be sufficient. Would save 1/2 oz.
Some lightening holes in the sheet surfaces would save some more wieght. A circle here, a circle there, a scollop under that.... 1/4 oz could proberbly be found.
Weight IS the Enemy.

Just build it out of contest balsa (4-6 lbs/cu ft) and reinforce ware it's necessary. That will save ya some weight. These little sticks really only elevator and aileron to really fly great just think mini pylon racer!!

Thanks CP, I forgot all about the Tyvek hinges - may just give that try (and I know where there's a roll laying). You're right, it's gonna being tricky fishing the Tyvek into the slots - that's if I can slit the 1/16" sheet surfaces without making a trip to the the ER!

mr_leffe... I kinda figured the battery was overkill, but it balances nicely with the 280 up front. Sure, I could swiss-cheese the tail and fuse and get away with less noseweight, but darnit, I'm just too anxious to fly the thing! (Or is that too lazy to take your advice? Hmmmm.....)

Lightweight RX/battery switch ideas? Anyone? I'm thinking of putting a small SPST slide switch right into the battery harness and doing away with the charge jack and all of the extra wiring... How do you all do it? Speaking of extra wires - those Hitec HS-55s have like a mile of wire on 'em! OK, so it's no more than on a standard size servo, but it sure looks out of place!

alex7: how do you do that motor???
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand. Are you asking how I made the engine that I use for my avitar? Or are you asking about the Cox TD .010 that's on the airplane?

Ya'll with be the second to know how it goes! I know it ain't gonna be like the DNU! and that's OK...

I have scale model of a Scat Cat -- 20 inch span with a TD .010 with throttle on it. I had a neighbor who made them but he passed away. I still have some carb parts which he left me and I'm thinking about making a couple to see what's involved. Problems are that parts for the engine are going to become scarce -- glo plugs etc.
