RE: A TRIBUTE TO MY SON, CHARLES IV
Chuck, please accept my most sensire condolences to you on the death of your son. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. As a veteran, I salute your son and his sacrifice for all of us. Freedom is never free, but why does it have to cost so damned much? We never really get over the loss of our sons, we just get better at dealing with it.
God bless you and comfort you in this time of sorrow,
Les

Chuck,
I just noticed this thread; I know it has been seven years, but my condolences to you on the loss of your son. I was career Navy and my son is following suit. He did 9 months in Mosul, Iraq a few years ago and is now in Jordan. I can't imagine your loss, but I want you to know that my son and I greatly appreciate your son's service to our great country.
Regards,
Gus

Hi CP,
I have followed this thread from the start.
Words escape me. Others have expressed more than I ever could.
As a Wordsmith, CP, you have always told us of your 'long grass' field to land in...
Here is a song, I think of you and you son flying in:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGwDYBWEDSc
I'm hoisting a few beers in honor,
For those who faced the Fears with Courage,
For Us.
Take care,
Have fun,

Thanks for sharing that Dave.
About that field..there's lots of great memories there, but one that stands out is when I finally met the owner of that field after flying there for many years without permission.
I had a plane in the air and was surprised to hear a voice behind me strike up a converstaion about the plane. He wanted to know all about it, how the engine ran, how the controls worked, etc. He said that he had driven by for many years but was in too much of a hurry to pull over and talk. He wanted to know how I got into the hobby, how much it cost, building methods, etc.
I told him about the local hobby store and about joining the AMA. I also told him about the benefit of the insurance. We talked for quite a long time and the conversation shifted over to "rancher and farmer" talk. I proudly told him about my little chunk of land just 4 miles up the hill from where we were standing. This guy then in the nicest, most unassuming way let me know that he owned not only the 100 acres that we were standing on, but a few hundred more acres in this general area.
After hearing this my ears must have turned bright red...I was embarrassed. All I could say was how it is a pleasure to finally meet the owner and I thanked him for letting me fly for so long on the only "open fields" that are left in the area.
He watched me fly a couple more flights, then pardoned himself to takeoff and take care of some business elsewhere.
He makes hay once or twice a year out there and wants to sell it.

To Charlie!
Thank you Brother, for what you have given.
This weekend I will sit with my other friends, as we drink to another lost brother Tim...

Nice to hear from you Mr Vicman...!
Today is just about another trip around the Sun since Charlie was killed. It is hard to believe so much time has passed.
He would be 32, possibly starting a family, possibly either a career soldier or else working as a heavy equipment mechanic and living in his own house that we would build on the back half of my property.
That's the way it was supposed to work out.

I well remember when Chuck first posted the news about Charlie and how I felt --- it has changed little over time. Now, as then, I can only offer my thanks for his service to this country and my sympathy to you, Chuck.

Vic --
A guy who used to live on this site and now is rarely here due to the "upgrade".
Most likely fading away till the My Forums is fixed. Too bad.
It has gotten much better --- don't be such a stranger; there are not a lot of the old group left.

Nice to hear from you too Andrew.
Got any projects brewing...?
I just got an order of wood in from SIG. I asked the lady if they could hand select some 6 pound to 8 pound balsa in a few different thicknesses and they did a fantastic job of furnishing sheets with a good strength to weight. Last time I ordered from them they used an old rumpled up Astro Hog plan as packing material, but no rumpled up plan this time, just rumpled up Montezuma Iowa newspaper.

Considering my trails and tribulations getting repeatable balsa and even close to spec up here in any quantity.. I should really give a thought to good ol' SIG..
Hey Chuck.. a toast to Charlie and to you. I had to go back to the first page to see how many years have passed. Isn't that something. Every time I think about it I am reminded every day with my boys is precious.. the second one goes off to university next year. Soon it'll be me and the missus again, with arthritis living in the basement.
I should send you 3-4' of butcher paper and a pencil so you can design your .15 speed plane.
Cheers,

Yes.....I've got to square away my model building area, then get started on that .15 sized BATOUTTAHELL. I plan on using 1/2" thick balsa sheet for the wing and airfoil both sides [instead of just the top like I normally do with the 1/4" thick wings].

CP - sorry I'm late to this. I'm so sorry about your son. I didn't even think you were old enough to have a son - much less one in the military. I can't imagine how you feel. I lost two close friends in the first years over there - one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and was pretty shook up about it. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose your child.
All my best to you,
- Paul

Hi CP,
Your son Charles IV, will always be with us.
See the 'Field of Dreams' y-tube from last year.
Somehow,
I hope he will approve of this song,
Mental Health is a huge problem with Charles' fellow returning Soldiers.
I am Manic-Depressive, and my middle name is Charles...

I would rather talk about 1/2A...
I'm trying to be good, and meet Charles IV, in Heaven...
Unfortunately, sympathies are like broken props..
Life goes on.
Fresh fuel, glowplug, prop, airplane....
Gotta follow the best !
Hoist a beer with me...
In Honor, of Charles IV
With Respect,
Take care,
Have fun,
