Default Loose about .75 OZ off of a reciever!

I took a regular futaba 7 chanel reciever and pulled the plastic covers off of it and it lost almost .75 OZ and is now under 1 OZ!n I don't really see why it has to have the covers as long as you wrap it up in foam carefully.

hey chev,

I dont even use the foam on my 1/2A planes. I just mount the RX with two sided tape and hit it with a little ca. Some of that foam stuff is really heavy.

I use these:
http://ecsvr.com/RC-Direct/shopexd.asp?id=1145
They work great! They're 4 grams each, for those gram challenged 1oz equals 28 grams, so for an oz. you'd get 7 of them.

Wow! That little thing is amazing and pretty resonable price too!

I hope that is Futaba compatible.

Is there any draw back to that little reciever?

It's cheaper at Tower and they show a stock status of late July. These are coming into stock after Berg sold out to Castle Creations. I've been watching for them to come into stock, and I'm willing to bet Tower gets them first.

Tower is also going to carry the Berg 7-ch receiver that weighs .28oz (8gr) with a translucent polycarbonate case. Now the debate - get the 4-ch to fly my S-Tee now, or wait for the 7-ch so when I build up my HOB ME-109 I can add retracts (and flaps?). There is only 4gr difference between the 7-ch and the 4L.

why not get both, get the 4ch and the 7 later...

or for those who NEED the lightweight and the extra channels NOW. you can buy an old 5dsp off ebay or similar and get a channel expander for it from rc direct.

also, this place had the 4ch in stock with the 7ch soon to come. I bought two from them last week and ordered the crystals from tower with a diff order. They are actually cheaper then tower in some regards.... well, maybe not after shipping..

edit: I am pretty darn sure this will work with futabas. Do a google search for "berg receiver" and read some of the forum threads.

THERE IS ONE PROBLEM that these receivers have. Because of the filtering that is built into them, some buddybox setups will NOT work. so if you plan on ever using it with buddyboxed transmitters, keep this in mind. There is a forum thread somewhere. It should com eup with that google search. its on the "other" rc site.

I was just about to order the Hitec 05MS http://www.hitecrcd.com/homepage/product_fs.htm when this post came up.

Can someone comment on range, glitches, accuracy? I'd like to put one in a reedie racer and need something solid.

Sneasle, that's just a front for Horizon. Any dealer can have their own web presence with them. That's about the only company with enough muscle to get stuff before tower!

The only quirks that I've found is if you use all four channels you're going to need a small Y connector so you can get a power line into it, and I've had to cut the tang off the top of the futaba servo leads, I guess thats the price you pay for being so tiny.

Shoot, I use an old gold-case Futaba AM and the 4-ch receivers only weigh 1/2oz, case & all...

Just got back from a sailplane contest using the Berg 4L, range is NOT a problem! My RAM2 put me at 3433ft up, and I was out about that far, so I would say a 1/2A will not have a range problem.

Have any of you used these in the larger IC models, like say a .46 sized plane? I'm building a 72" Global Cessna and am wondering what the best receiver option would be.

The size of the model doesn't matter, my sailplane is 120 inches.
