MicroStik + Larry's .020
Here's a picture of a MicroStik I've had drawn up as 180 electric for awhile. My lack of experience and Bipeflier's advice got the electric torn out and the "fora" .02 stuck on the front. AUW minus covering is 5.75oz. If I use Doculam, a 6.25oz AUW will be easy! What do you guys with 1/8a and 1/4a experience think? Would the TD .01 fly it?

No... Just the light wieght tape. I run a strip on the sides to keep it clean while I was messing with the solder / tank /dirty hands.
I do use Tyvek from thier envelopes for hinges and reinforcing and have used the packing tape to cover foam slopers and the foam floats I made for an electric Bipe.

From the performance of my 5 oz Littlest Stik I'd say you're about one oz overweight for flying with an 010. But oddly enough it'll be a HOTROD! ! ! ! with a Pee Wee. Perhaps the Fora with it's detuned performance will suit this just right.
Ya know? That same planform with a pop bottle plastic cowl and beer can front curved topdeck would be a super sweet looking 049 model for RE control if blown up to 36 inch span. Or for some more scale like performance blow it up to about 45 to 48 inch span for more of a vintage look in the air and some powered gliding on days where the trip back from downwind is not too wild.

Hi Charles,
The .010 will fly that good lookin plane IMO. For snappy performance six plus oz. AUW is getting to be a touch heavy in my experience anyway. I have a Radical RC Microstick 3 channel A/E/T ( thank you Mr. Adams) flying on a .010 that's just a tic over five oz. that flys decent. I fly in Denver Colorado at 5280 feet so I think your extra oz. would make the two planes ruoghly equevalent performance wise.

Sorry, when I said about one oz overweight above I meant one oz overweight for SPORTY aerobatic flying. With a bit more wing area than my measly 18 inches of span an 010 would fly a 6 oz plane fine as long as you just want to fly around. But I don't think it would have the snot to carry it around much of a continuous aerobatic display.

Skaliwag, that's the Stik I built while waiting for the parts!
It turned out nice and light, but the only battery I have left sitting around is a 300mah nimh. I included that in the weights. Has anybody here stripped a nimh 9v down for the cells? I'm headed off to find one in the morning. That could cut more than 1/2oz off the weight.
Bruce, it's a 24" span with ~125 sq in. The tank has a fixed pickup, so aerobatics are out of the question anyway. You think the "peewee-esque" .02 will make it spunky?

PT.. I have cannibalized the smoke detector batts but found they did not like to be fast charched. The type I used were GE and were 8 X 50mah NiCad.
Rainedav.... Thanks, It is very much influenced by the Tuabe, the 1912 Blackburn. and a scaled down airplane I have had for a while that has TD 020 on it ... see pic.
This is PT's baby so I will post more about mine in a different thread. Want to talk about covering.

Darren, how in the world did you know my first name?[X(] It's not a state secret or anything, just curious!

You malied me some plans and a HOT FOOT short kit about a year ago. You screwed up and put your first name on the return label. For some reason I just happened to remember it.
I've been using a four cell 50 mAh pack in my .010 applications with good results. This pack is good for about three 12 min. fights on my microstick.

One of Larry's Fora 020's would make it a nice flyer for sure. Just the extra wind blast from the larger prop will ensure that you can at least do some of the basic rudder stuff like nice barrel rolls and general loops. My rudder only Mini Reb spends much of it's time upside down or in various oddball attitudes and the fuel run is just fine with a fixed pickup thanks to all the G loads being positive or only 0 so the fuel either stays down or floats in a weightless manner.
Heck, why not play with using the elevator for a trim only and emergency function to use this model to learn R/O flying? Add a touch of extra nose weight, trim in some up elevator and add some extra downthrust to the engine. Then, once you've learned to be a REAL man you can remove the elevator servo all together.... Go on and try it. I double dog dare ya!

Darren, you can call me Patrick. I go by my middle name, that's why I was suprised. I will frequently put my first name on labels and such. It's habit, cause I gotta sign alot of stuff at work.
Bruce, you talking to me? Mine's A/E! I love building flat wings. This one's so strong, I could stick a product engine on it for the Reedie race! ...geez, I shoulda kept that to myself.
