Please help I want to build my plane!
I bought a Herr Pitts Special .061 this weekend. I left my manual in a store yesterday when I was buying my accessories. Of course they are closed today and tomorrow. Does anyone have this manual that could email it to me so I could start building? Any assistance would be appreciated!!!

Well I guess you've exhausted every effort now I'll buy it from ya for 1/2 price, that being that it's mssing some things.
I think if you have the plans you'll be alright

RE: Please help I want to build my plane!
I already started it. I have the stabilizer and elevator put together and hinged. I have the fin and rudder hinged. The firewall is cut to accept an OS .15. Right now I'm just propping it up to see what it's going to look like. I'm just going to have to wait until the store opens to get the manual (if they didn't throw it out). Thanks again.

RE: Please help I want to build my plane!
Thanks. I got it at Tower Hobbies. It was $52. This is going to be my first small plane. Some people are making me have second thoughts about it. They keep telling me how much more difficult they are to fly because of the wind and that you have to fly them fast. I can't let them get to me. I always wanted to build a biplane. I think this will fly nice as long as I set it up right. Hopefully all will go well. I know I'm not going to be underpowering it. I'm putting an O.S. .15 in it which some have said is overkill but I know what it's like to underpower a plane. I did that on my first plane by using an O.S. 40 LA. Had a few hairy flights. Once I put an O.S. .46 FX on it, wow, what a difference! But putting the 5.99 oz engine on it means it is going to be very nose heavy, so I'm going to have to mount the rudder and elevator servos under the stab in order to get it to balance without adding any extra weight to it. I read that on this site. The guy that wrote it said it balanced "PERFECT" when he did it so I'll have to take his word for it.

I gotta admitt Vin with a .15 on it you won't need wings and if I recall right that plane was rated for a .051-.074 or roundabouts. I'd keep it within spec. But 1/2a's aren't bad they just get a little iffy in high winds. Of course you already know about scale mistakes. even a micro mistake on a 1/2a can spell disaster on a maiden flight. Good luck.

It calls for a .061 to .074. I've read in some reviews that the .061 can barely fly it. The manual says it should fly very well with a Norvel .074 if you are a light builder, but if you build a little heavier, then a .10 or .15 would be a better choice. I want to hover with it so shouldn't I go with the high end of the spectrum? Also, does anyone have any experience with the Magnum .15? It's $59 compared to O.S.'s $109 but how does it perform? It's a little lighter than the O.S. but it also has .05hp less. What do you guys think?

Wind, schmind. The plane size makes no difference. It's about power and drag. A .40 size trainer is as bad as anything else in the wind. One of my best windy day flyers is a 24" span 8oz plane.
I'd go with the .15, but you'll have to come in around 20oz if you want to hover it.
There's a reason the Magnum costs less...

Thanks. What do those cost? I've seen some that are over $100 each. The instructions call for at least 25 oz/in of torque. I just checked Tower Hbbies for the HS-81's and it says they are discontinued.

Thanks! I just checked. They are $13.99 each now with the 20% discount. Thats great. One question I do have is what is negative/positive shift on a receiver? I want to get a flight pack but its asking me this question. I have a Futaba 8UAF radio. The frequency is 72 mhz and the channel is 32.

The HS81 has 36oz/in of torque. Tower still has them, just with the "universal" style plug, not the Futaba plug.
Futaba is negative shift. JR and Airtronics are positive shift. Hitec swings both ways.
