Default speedy bee erratic flight - HELP!!!

I have a speedy bee with an irvine .20 diesel and the plane seems to have a VERY HARD time flying level, but it loves to go up like a rocket or down like a stone. Anyone had similar experience with this ARF from Clancy? Could it be the angle of incidence for the wing isn't right? The CG seems OK.
thanks - hope to correct it beofre the fatal crash...
;-))

Does the CG just seem ok, or is it really OK? It sounds to me like it's flying tail heavy. It probably wouldn't hurt to check for wing and stab incidence to make sure it's ok, but I'm almost certain if you add a few ounces to the nose it will settle down.

Look at this- we have at least 4 guys from VA on this site and not to far away. We need to start our own fly-ins like the NC guys do. I think we have a couple of guys from MD as well.
Anyone up for that?
Don't forget the NVRC auction on I think Sunday Oct 15 in Northern VA. Anyone going? I plan to be there. I got a whole box of Cox .010, .020 parts and complete engines for almost nothing last year. I tend to rotate my stock when I get tired of some of my planes.
Maybe we can meet up.

Yeah, I'd go with the Nose weight theory. Drop some BB's in there and see if it doesn't settle down. And Oh, yeah, I couldn't resist posting due to my locale.

I think we could make this a bigger SMALL event in the coming years....right now it is just a LOT OF FUN!...Rog

.Sounds like a good deal to have an all VA fly in. We could have it in Franklin or Dinwiddie or somewhere there is 4 million acres of farm land for my crash testing, uh I mean flying. Shu, I have a lot of family in NVA, I'll let you know next time I'm in the area.

Rog, I'll be at your fly in barring a hurricane or something. I am about 4 hours away according to Mapquest. The guys coming from Northern VA have about the same distance to travel, but from a different direction. They are up near DC, I'm on the coast and Louisa is in the center of nowhere about 40 miles from the end of the universe. Do you have a furthest distance traveled trophy?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.........

Rog, Planning on coming up with the family for the Fun Fly. My 1/2a hanger is a little empty right now but was thinking of rebuilding my old design contest plane (the one in my avitar pic) for the reedie race. Still have the ME 109 you gave me, but it's now so heavy from repairs, I'm not sure the old Sure Start in it will haul it anymore! Oh yeah, I've got my old Ace High MKll motor glider too. You really sure I don't need to bring my hard hat from work? Prop

One of the things I miss about living in Stafford is the NVRC auctions. I bought and sold there with complete satisfaction several times. Y'all sho' nuf ar swel felers up Noth yoner.

Tell ya what, if the price of gass gets into the $2s I'll see ya there - in October. (Sometimes my sense of humor just breaks me up.)

Your absolutely right about that Tangerine, we still have dinosaurs wandering around out here! Its not too bad though, you just gotta keep an eye out when your driving. These fly ins sound fun, unfortunately I will be doing a lot of traveling over the next 4-5 months, so it probably wont fit in. Thanks for the invites though guys, and I'm sure sooner or later most of us will be able to come. The silver lining is that one of these trips I'm taking is to Old Rhinebeck in a couple of weeks, so that should make up for me missing things a little.

Went to a Scale Fun Fly at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome when I was a kid with my dad. What a blast! after the RC events, we got to watch the restored fullscale guys put on a show. One of my best times as a kid!!

Don't you dare!!!!! I'm looking forward to hanging out and goofing off and stuff. That's the kind of activities one would engage when participating in the event known as "relaxing". I look forward to an intense day of milling around, shooting the bull, and telling hunting lies, chowing down on really bad-for-you foods, and with any luck, get some air time on my plane.

Hi freifschneider ,

Where'd you get that Speedy Bee ? I can't find them anywhere, kits, nothing. Scratch build ? Strangely enough, I visit VA often.

I've never flown a speed bee myself, but I have a ladybug and have experience with a lazy bee. Because they are so short coupled, they tend to be VERY pitch sensitive, and this problem becomes much more apparent at higher airspeeds. I've shifted the CG back and forth on the lady bug quite a bit with no appreciable change in pitch sensitivity--I just try to be easy on the elevator at high speed(especially down--it loves to tuck under[X(]). Maybe use dual rates with low throws for high speed flight?
