RE: CS .049 Reed Engine
is that an aluminium prop, with a bunch of dings in the LE?
crikey
why put up a shot of a dinged prop? They couldnt get someone to sand it down first for the picture?
Maybe they will market them with Blue Annodized Props to match the case.

Call me skeptical, but I don't think they've had the time to get the machinery setup. I'm betting that's an actual Cox engine used for stock photos.

RE: CS .049 Reed Engine
Well. I am interested to see where this heads, and if Cox has given up entirely on it's range of engines then I am disappointed. What a way to end something so unique. I presumed that Cox had licenced CS to manufacture it's engines on it's behalf, but this looks like the end. Still, it remains to be seen what CS does with it.......

RE: CS .049 Reed Engine
You know in the end this could be a good thing. CS only seems to sell to distributors, so at this time I don't think you could buy this engine.
Consider that Cox could have sold CS the machines and tooling so that CS would build engines for Cox. Cox does not want to make engines (or anything else it looks like), and CS has several lines of things to make. CS could support the production requirements for this engine with their other work, and cox could not as a stand alone situation.
In industry, this happens all the time, if you want to get out of the manufacturing part, sell all the tools and fixtures to a supplier and he takes over the production part. Auto companies do it all the time, IBM did it with an entire division.
CS can make a good engine, look at the small Brodak motors. Brodak doesn't make motors, they get someone else to make them. The big question, can CS make a quality Cox product?

RE: CS .049 Reed Engine
Scott, do you know if Cox retained the rights to their engines or sold them with the equipment? I figure that in a few years when the used market is depleted it may become feasable to start making engines again. I understand the current attitude at Cox is that they will never produce another engine onsite, but I don't believe in the word "never".

If you have a blue and yellow Cox RR-1 you'll appreciate the blue crankcase. Too bad Cox had the tank blue and the case yellow.
As to CS they have made some of the worst quality motors to ever be pushed on the modelling public. As was said before if you get a good one they are very good but most are inferior in machining and holding tolerance. Just saw a picture of a CS piston that was put into a motor and sold and it had a void in the side, not good and shows us that quality control is non existant.
We do know that the plant had shut down for awhile to reorganize and perhaps there has been a turn around in their manufacturing and quality issues. However, I'll let someone else buy the first one and see how it runs.

Dangit, I wanted to be the first to post that link.
Well, fingers crossed for quality. Would be nice if they went to a connecting rod instead of a ball socket that needs reset constantly.
