The simple way is to run three or four tanks (~2-3 minutes/run) at a slightly rich setting. Do not allow it to run over-lean. Cool between runnings for 5 minutes or so.

A more detailed way is to first remove the backplate and check inside the crankcase and remove any filings or chips. Check that the piston ball socket has almost no slop (looseness). If it does, reset the fit with the proper reset tool. Reassemble engine, then do the simple break-in.

Break-in should be done at a bench using a break-in stand (a board with the engine held on with wood screws is good). If breaking-in on a plane, do not launch the plane until break-in is complete. This allows you to ensure that the engine stays rich and is not run over lean.

Ideally, an engine should not be run over lean for more than a few seconds. This is more critical until the parts wear-in a bit.

Your engine should be run on 15%-30% nitro, 20%-22% oil (at least half castor). A good 1/2A fuel is recommended. Avoid RC fuel for larger engines unless additional oil is added.

Good luck.

Get to know your engine on a test block or screwed to a fence post for three or four runs. Keep it a little on the rich side as gcb suggested and on the third run play with the needle valve to find the highest pitch peak. Once you find the highest pitch open the needle about 1/8 to 1/4 turn to just bring it down a hair off the highest peak. That's normally where you'd fly it.

This slight richening is needed because the RPM's pick up a little in the air and just as a safety note.
