Neat engine, too bad it didn't happen in bigger numbers. No head gasket to worry about either. Love or hate the online auctions, you have to admit it gives you a look at engines you might not otherwise see... Ross

Interesting that being a prototype there is no provision for a muffler (other than a strap on type).

Someone fill me in on this, but wasn't Cox owned by the parent company that also owned K&B or Testors? I read somewhere that they felt larger Coxes would only hurt sales of their already established larger engine line. Today the Chinese have the opposite logic; Sanye makes Magnum, Evolution, ASP and others (I think I have that right).

The owner just sold the Golden Gate bridge.

Someone will buy this to.

Wow I thought it was up there at 700+ dollars when I started the thread. I'm sure the drawings are helping push the price for the collector crowd.

One thing really cool was that it has a plain jane Perry carb on it. Sort of shows how good the Perry is.

All I want is about 2 hrs in a close inspection of the winner's collection. Uh, with a really good video camera!!! If he is this serious, no telling what other goodies he may have just lying around.

My thoughts exactly, MJD. There was a rash of similar auctions shortly after Cox got spun off as a hobby business recently.

It was probably tucked inside the satchel that was supposed to contain a golden parachute.

More of that "I'll fix them" mentality goes on at failing companies or soon-to-be-ex-employers than some people might imagine - been there, seen that. There are a healthy number of cool collectibles on the hobby auction market that came from manufacturer's archives quite unknowingly to the manufacturer in question.

While it's not a Cox engine notice the price and that it was a "Buy it Now" win so there was not even a bidding war![link=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110058382369&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fse arch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D110058382369%26f vi%3D1]Fox Long Shaft[/link]

I've seen - and heard - the glow version run. They're not as rare since the engine came out right before or around the time Arden introduced the glow plug and manufacturers started selling their ignition designs as glow versions thereafter. The long Shaft is one of those transitional period engines. They are loud, but maybe not as loud as a Dooling.
