A new local Crew member and btw what glue
do I use to glue the carb back on my Norvel .061? I had it running and was leaning it out when the carb just popped off!!...Rainedave came to the field this morning , he had 2 planes to maiden and both of them went really well, Bsarge helped out with the controls..while he was honing his skill on a .25 Taco...there should be some pics to come....a good time was had by all..except the deer at the gate[&o]....Rog

Glad y'all had fun.The deer has been there a couple of days now and should be ripe in a couple of more.[X(]
I am glad to see some new blood in the club, maybe we can get some activities going this coming year.I was hoping y'all would be flying this evening.Oh well,I will brave it alone.I put the 70 four stroke on the Twist and I need to do a few more adjusting flights.

I would clean both the carb and the case throughly with alcohol ( or soap and water if I wanted to take the engine apart) and then glue the carb back on with a small amount of JB Weld. If it did not want to stay in place while the JB sets, I would use a rubber band for a clamp.

Right now several thousand maggots are. The carcass has been decomposing by the gate for almost a week.
I'll post some photos in a bit. And give a flight report.

Errr... that was a twist I didn't think of. I figured somebody had a gun in the back window of their pickup.
I'll pass on photos of the deer...

I'm sorry rog didn't get his new Shrike in the air. It looks great and very fast! BSARGE had his Taco with an OS .25 in it. This is a great flying plane. Rolls on high rates resemble a spinning drill bit. He's also an excellent pilot.
Here are some pics of rog, BSARGE and me.
And, my electric Randolph Bee-Tween and my Sun Fli IV with an AP Wasp. Both flew for the first time today and both flew well. BSARGE maidened the SF IV for me. It needed a bit of up elevator adjustment but flew very well after that. It will probably be my new favorite 1/2A plane. Even I can fly it with ease; very stable and smooth and not at all twitchy. I just need to add in some more aileron throw. The Bee-Tween has more than enough power with the GWS direct drive and floats like an old timer free flight model. It doesn't handle gusty wind too well, though. Both fly great at half throttle.
It was an awesome, successful morning.

Vic, you from NY like Tim? Everybody knows that it's guns in the rear window all the way up to Virginia.[&:] Nice pics Dave. You and Rog could almost be twins... like the movie![sm=lol.gif]

Aw, I wanted to play too! Did I make youse-all mad at me?
As usual, there are some pretty planes in the photos. Strange coincidence, I have been looking at a couple of Randolph designs with an eye to get away from foam and back to the "real' stuff for a balsa 'fix'.
I'd vote for JB Weld and build up a little fillet for good measure.

Might think about duplicating AP's method and use screws. Don't know how much extra meat there is there, and it would require some careful drilling and tapping...and an o-ring. Just a thought.

It was a great time today! Except for Rog's carb popping off the engine(and Bambi). The quality of construction of Dave's planes is amazing to say the least! I wish I could build 1/10 as well as him.

Ok fellas, it is JB welded on and rubber banded down, cross your fingers....Bipe, only my .074 engines have the carb bolted on, none of the .049s or .061s...I supposed that they all could have set oon the shelf for a few years?...Raymond, we just threw this party together 2 days ago, when we were all free..so its hard to give any notice..plus alot of times when Bill and I fly we're only out there for an hour....and Dave really does nice work on his planes.....Rog

Yes, there were a few different versions. The one on the right in the picture actually has the carb bolted and glued. Later versions just have them bolted.

I kind of like the use of an o-ring, but it seems you have to include some preventive maintenance to keep them fresh, whole and soft enough to seal.

Well, 12 hours later and I walked in and picked the plane up by the carb and shook it, looks good, pretty gray JB weld color...[&:]...hmmm my VA and 1/2 a dozen norvels .049-.061 are all glued in, the CS .061 is screwed in from both sides ( a screw goes in from both sides) my GP-07 the carb is cast as part of the case but has parts machined into it...vewwy intewesting... no deer were harmed during this investigation...Rog
I have bought all my Norvels since 02 , I cant imagine all of them were over 4 years old at that time?..
