Default Homemade torque rod connectors? Help!

I just bought the last set of 1/2A aileron hardware at Hobbytown USA and one of the plastic connectors that threads onto the torque rod is defective.

Anyone have a good method of fabricating torque rod connectors? I'm tal;king about the piece that threads onto the torque rod and attaches to the servo pushrod.

Thanks, David

I have wrapped brass sheet around the rod and soldered it into place. Then shape it with a file and drill a hole to fit the linkage rod/clevice.
Works fine so far.

Thanks, vic, I may end up doing it that way. The onlt drawback is that I won't be able to adjust the throw at the torque rod end.

I filled some 4-40 connectors with epoxy. I'll drill them undersize and tap them for the 2-56 rods. There isn't really any up and down force on these things, so, the epoxy might work.

For rod adjustment I put a series of 3 Z-bends creating a "V" shape in the rod to allow for minor tweaks.
The glue idea seems a little ify to me.

I have also done the tube thing but have had it split during the flattening process. It also makes a the rod too tall unless you want to do the soldering close to the wing. Good enough idea most of the time tho.

They look really sharp, vic. Adjusting the pushrod length is no problem. It's the height of the connector from the aileron hinge line that I want to adjust since that determines the throw.

Yeah, I figured that was what you were wanting. I set mine as high as I wanted max throw to be and figured I could temper it down with my Tx.
The pics were just to explain the whole Z-bend thing.
You should recognize the wing.

Yep, the epoxy idea was a waste of time. I'm going to try using set screws. That's the Rivets with the inflight adjustable firewall/engine thrust feature!

LOL[sm=bananahead.gif]

You can always re-heat the solder and move the pc up and down the rod too ya know.
I even make the torque rod out of welding wire.

RD, those fittings are called aileron horn brackets in the SIG book. I have forced yellow nyrod into those fittings, wicked them together with thin ca, then trimmed the excess nyrod flush with the nylon horn bracket. All that is left to do is run a tap into the nyrod sleeve and off you go. I think the nyrod is a press in fit with the brackets that are made for #6 hardware.

cp, that's ingenious! I might roughen up the inside of the horn bracket a bit before pushing in the nyrod. That will work perfectly!

Thanks, David

You're welcome, RD! Last time I looked, the 2-56 type were back in stock at TOWER, they had been unavailable for a long time.
