Why am I asking about .25s here?
Because I need a really light weight one. And I figure there are some folks here who know of a good choice. Maybe cp knows of a good light .20 or .25 used for combat, for example. I was looking at the bushing Thunder Tiger GP .25. It's a lot lighter than your average BB version. I'd like to stay at or under the 200gm/7oz range. Thanks.

RE: Why am I asking about .25s here?
If you can find one of the old OS max .25 engines (the pre FP bushing engines with the strap on muffler) my dad has one and it is lighter than my fp and gp engines, I have a .15 size and it is one ounce lighter than my .10 fp, but I don't know exactly how much lighter the .25's are. And the side benefit is they both have been running forever...I've never checked the rpm's on his but the performance seems to be as good as or better than the fp's. FWIW my magnum gp 25 is more powerful than my OS fp .25 for whatever reason...I haven't weighed both of them to see if one ways more...for my purposes I just assumed they weigh the same.

rainedave,
The Magnum GP25, or if you can find one an IRVINE 25FSR is a light BB motor and there bullet proof.

RD, I've tried a few .25s and they have all disappointed me equally. They suck for combat, the wreckage is too much for me to deal with and the combat pattern is more like high speed jousting. They fall in at the low range of .40 sized kits. By far the lightest and most powerful .25 I've ever seen is the Norvel. If you want to push the .25 sized envelope, get a OS or Webra .32, now they rock! Go ahead and treat yourself to one of the finest engines ever made, the OS .32!

RE: Why am I asking about .25s here?
Thanks everyone. My priority is weight, not power. I have a plane that's already a touch nose heavy with an FP .20. I moved the battery back to the TE of the wing (was under the tank) so now I can go a little heavier than the .20. Those .32s and BB .25s weight about 12 or more ounces - no way my plane will balance with one. I've seen a number of OS .32 fly and I agree they are little monsters, just too much nose ballast for this particular model.
The FP .20 was producing all the power the plane needs, but it's just worn out. By the time I buy all the replacement parts for it I could buy a new engine. If I'm going to spend $50 to $75 on OS parts (read over-priced) I'd just as soon buy a new engine. I suppose I could go with an LA .25, but it's an ounce heavier than the GP.

Hi Dave - Just curious as to what your gonna stick this engine in. Read thru this twice and didn't see any mention of it.

RD, for what you describe, I would hate to cough up too much just to buy a "tweener" type engine. The RCU market place is a good place to check out motivated sellers of stuff like that.
Vic, never weighed a model? Now I know what you need for XMAS.

The problem is it's a "tweener" model. I scaled it down to a size that's too big for a hot .15 and a bit too small for a .32. It was my mistake in building a plane for an engine size that is no longer being produced. A real shame because it flies great. Todd, it's my 42" Kaos.

I guess I could butcher the plane and put the rx at the TE where the battery is now, run a servo extension up to the throttle servo, and cut a hatch in the bottom rear of the fuse for the battery. It might then balance with a BB .25 or .32. I just don't want to add tail weight on top of the added weight of a heavier engine. The plane has 340 sq" of wing area.

RD, I bult a SWR for a .32 last year with about the same wing area, I think it has 280 sq. It is very flyable at about 40 ozs. The .32 throttles nicely even with a tuned pipe. It sounds real cool at half throttle. A 42" Kaos would be great with a good running OS LA .25 . It is a light engine and would give that plane awesome power with a 9x4 prop.

Thanks, cp. The LA would even match the covering! It weighed about 42 or 43oz with the FP .20, the LA wouldn't add a noticeable amount to that. If I build another "scaled" version I'll make it about 46" which would be perfect for one of those Webra .32s.
