Default Glow clip for Norvel .074

I've been fighting this for years and finally decided to tap the collective wisdom of this board - For those of you who have Norvel .074s, what type/model glow clip do you use?

The "old fashioned" Cox / DuBro / Hobbico / Sullivan style doesn't fit b/c the .074 glow pin is lower than the top of the cylinder head.

The locking glow clips work, sort of, except that the Norvel plug is round so you can't lock it on. I end up holding it onto the plug while starting, which requires the use of my third hand (which I keep in my flight box for just such emergencies, but I can't use it when there are others around for obvious reasons...)

I suppose I could use alligator clips to the pin and the head, but that seems kludgy and there are enough wires near the prop as it is.

Thoughts / pictures?

EG

What's wrong with the DuBro type that clamp on instead of twist-and-lock?

EG, out of the package, the yellow clips don't work. You have to bend the metal parts and then they work great. Mine will sometimes rotate around the head a little, but I can't recall it ever popping off while starting an engine.

Now that I think about it. I removed the bottom piece, flipped it over and then bent it to shape.

There's your answer. Do this and it will work great.

I use the short shaft du-bro rechargeable ones and they work fine.

I use the Du-Bro ones, too. They fit perfectly.

If you've got an old Cox clip that was basically two strips of brass in a plastic holder it will work perfectly. The top clips around the glow plug post and the lower piece sits on top of the head. Simple and cheap.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone!

RD - Appreciate the tip on customizing the Sullivan. I'll give it a go.

Beenie / Bipe - How does the Dubro kwik klip stay connected to the glow head? The .074 plug is round not hexagonal so it can't twist on.

John C - The brass ones don't work because the glowhead pin is below the top of the cylinder head. You can't get (or at least I can't get) the top strip of brass to slide onto the pin.

EG
It doesn't twist on, it is spring loaded with little claws that grip the glow head and holds very well. It fits standard glow plugs and Norvel plugs.

Here's a picture of the Cox glow clip on the Norvel .074. It's the only way I've heated a 1/2A glow plug. Also, the plane it's on, HOB Spacewalker, hope to get it on the pond tomorrow

I keep getting an error on loading the files to the reply. Anyhow, the top clip goes over the post just under the top bulb. The lower clip rests on top of the head. Engine has teh original glow plug and there is about 3/32" between tthe two clips when installed.
