Default Modifying Lanier Indicator

Hi all, first post here. I have a Lanier Indicator I'm building. After I learn to fly this plane, can it be modified for more spirited flying? I am going to equip it with a Norvel .049 with throttle control. Would it be hard to add ailerons to this plane? I also have a Goldberg .40 size trainer (Eagle I think). Which would be easier to learn to fly, the .049 Lanier or the .40 Goldberg. The Goldberg is fully assembled, but needs a few repairs. Thanks for any help. I know that's a lot of questions, but I'm a newbie.
