Default HEY!--Anyone flying a "Lil' Bubba"?

Guys,
Just got a "Lil' Bubba" on eBay, wondered who has one they can extoll the virtues of??

Kit seems to be VERY nice, look forward to building it.
I'm going to put a Norvel .074 in it.
Any comments on how it flys??
Appreciate the feedback!

Default Specs.......

Hi Andy,
the specs for the baby Bubba are:
Span--17.8 in.
Area---172 sq. in.
Weight---13-15oz.

The kit is all laser cut, nice plans, should be a easy build.
I think it will be a real rocket!!

Pud,

Depending on the design, it seems to me that the .074 would be way too much engine. Even an .061 would be a lot. Hot, mind you and maybe that's what you want but geez, an .074? Ouch.

What's the Ebay reference number so we can have a look at it?

Default HEY!--Anyone flying a "Lil' Bubba"?

I've been talking to the designer a little recently as he runs a local hobby shop. We got to talking about the LB as the prototype hangs in the shop along with several of his other designs.

From the first year I saw the LB at toledo, it had a Norvel .061 in it. They do about 80 on this motor I am told, which sounds about right. Putting the .074 on it wouldn't make it faster, just climb better. The .074 has lazier running temperment and is meant to swing bigger props than a hot .061. There's just not a lot of reason to go with the .074 though.. it should be vertical on the .061.

Default .074........

Well,
the MAIN reasons I am putting the .074 in it:

1)That's what I have available!
2)I wanted a decent throttled set-up.
And---it DOES say .049--.074 on the box!

Pud,

Does that mean that you've found that the .074 throttles better than the .061?

Default I got one

I have built a Lil' Bubba and just bought another one for later. I have a big mig .061 in mine and with an APC 5.5 x(i forget the rest) it is a Hot rocket!!!! 25% fuel. It rolls super quick and I reccomend you make the underside a different color than the top.

I have a 555 rx and 3 HS 81 servos in mine along with a homemade 270ma nimh battery.

It just takes a slight heave to launch but be warned!! You better be ready with the stick as this guy will quickly get ahead of you. When it runs out of fuel, you better have your approach planned, It's glide ratio will not allow you to go around at all. It comes in quite nice.

Good luck.

And IMHO, a .074 would be way too much! I flew mine once with a TD .051 with a Nelson head, C/C needle and 25% omega it was pleanty of power but I never got a reliable run.

Also, My BG .061 does not idle reliably but really for the lil' bubba, there is not much need to slow it down. (at least for me)

Just had a look at Lil Bubba. Omigod and your gonna put an .074 into it? Better hand launch at reduced throttle. Otherwise, that short span and torque reaction's going to roll you into the ground.

Not to nitpick, but the LB was around before the Norvel .074. Prior to that, the only .074 on the market was the Cox Queen Bee which for all practical intents and purposes is a muffled and throttled TD .051. Definitly no powerhouse like the Norvel.

Default Old??

So just how long has the LB been around?
I had never even heard of it until very recently--it's been around longer than the Norvel .074's have been out? :stupid:

I plan on launching it at reduced throttle settings--maybe VERY reduced...
After all---you CAN always throttle back, RIGHT??

Seriously guys, that's why I like RCU, I can get feedback on just such subjects as this.

The .074 MAY be too much, but I just gotta' try!!

Default Cute little thing.....

Looks Kinda Lika little F-18. Seems like the name just does not quite fit

Oughtta be a bit fast with the .074, but whatheheck? Sometimes more power equals more fun..........

Yeah, the LB is pretty cute, like someone took a 1/2A sport plane and started playing with x/y axis reductions on a copier.

I wouldn't worry about the .074 in your LB but I would try taking off at maybe 3/4 power until it's trimmed. There's not a lot of wing or tail to stabilise the torque when you check 'n chuck.

I wouldn't say the LB is 'old', maybe not the newest pet rock in Modeldom, but not old either. I know for a fact that I've seen it at Toledo at least twice and we're coming up to the next show, so it has to be at least 3 years old now.

Default RE: Lil' Bubba

Hi,

i am looking to buy a lil bubba, couldn't find any so far. May be somebody knows where to find a plan. Or at least where the center of gravity is (30%, 33%?). I copied the front of the manual and blew it up to full size, not very precise,
