What was your AUW? What did you cover with? Did you glue the seam of the tinfoil?

I'm going to try Shoe Goo for sealing diesel firewalls on my next plane....

Chevy........I don't remember what the weight was but if I remember right is was on the heavy side because the diesel is heavier, 4 servos, landing gear. I weill weigh it again. Yes I sealed the outer wrap of the tin foil. I used a thin bead of silicone. I would advise if you do the tin foil exhaust is to put the dowel in and leave it in until its about done. If you don't you will undoubtly crush sometime during the build. Luckly I could reinsert the dowel to straighten it out. I pulled the wires out of some electrical wire (round 4 wire) and used the outer tube for each end as it is stronger and less chance or ruining the foil.
I used that 500 ft roll of laminate stuff to cover it. I lightly misted paint on the inside to give a little color. I still have to put something on the fire wall to fuel proof it. Something I used to do 25 years ago, is take a pint of lacqure thinner in a jar and keep putting styrofoam in it. It will get some what thick like paint. The thinner will disolve the the styrofoam and then brush it on the wood. You want it thin enough to soak in. And after a few coats of it, it is like a plastic coating which is very light and seals out fuel and water if flying on water.. I want to see if it will stand up to the diesel fuel. Also if you do this, use the white foam. Colored foam leaves funny colored specks it the clear liquid. Terry

I covered mine with doculam too.

The diesel will eat the silicone so you might want to replace that pretty soon... Ca seems to do pretty well with diesel so far... I really like the tinfoil idea. I know that heavy duty tinfoil is availible too...

I wish I'd know about diesel eating silcone. It will be a real pain to replace now. Since I haven't ran it yet, I wonder if I could just soak the inside of the tin foil and hope it seals it? I did make about 4-5 wraps around the dowel when making it so even if it doesn't seal, it shouldn't seep out too fast. Maybe what I'll try is to run some CA down the exhauston the inside before I run it and fuel gets in it. Maybe it will help seal.

Any update on this thing? I recently received one of these kits and it will be my next project.

Those of you shy drill owners, do you hold you wing on with a nylon bolt or did you make it to use rubber bands? I made mine to bolt on but I think rubber bands might be better and less damage in some cases. Terry

Dowels and rubber bands are certainly an option... especially if you intend to not install L/Gear and use the weeds as the brakes. No need to put the ply tougnue in the wing if you decide to go that route.

Found some time tonight to start on the wing. It is going together very smooth with very little adjustment = approximately 2.5 hours needed to get this far.

Tomorrow I will turn it over to get the other side completed.

Goal is to finish it either this week or next and start covering. Can't wait to see the finished product, should be a great flier.

Worked on my Skydrill today and all but finished the wing. Hoping to finish the aileron linkage and servo mount this week.

Next will be to put all the "guts" in the fuselage.

Here are some pics of the pseudo assembly before going to bed...

Can't wait to get her flying.

I will get the webs in this week... completed most of the items to date by memory, so I will review the instructions / pictures to see if I missed anything else.

Anxious to get it covered and possibly bring it to Burlington to show the Carolina Crew.

That looks like a nice kit, and not too difficult to build. I especially like how the tail surfaces are pre-fabricated, and don't have to be built by a bunch of sticks, like many other kits. The Rapture I'm building is a royal PITA, and when I'm done, it'll be the last of anything I ever get that's over 1/2A in size or die-cut.

av8rsodt, how's your build going? Any progress lately? I was hoping to learn from your mistakes but it looks like I might beat ya into the air.

Work has been busy so a little delay. I will get back to it soon... been itchy to get it flyable with the awesome weather starting to show here in NC.

Take detailed first flight notes and I'll catch up with you in a few weeks.

She looks great!

I'm probably a week away from the maiden and I'm already getting twitchy and having heart palpatations.

Lookin' good. Glad you're back on it. I think you'll really like it. Mine has tons of flights on it and I still get excited to fire it up. After experimenting with props a bit, I've found that I like the overall performance of an APC 4.2x4 on the Skyline 049. It grooves along real nice.

Brian... When the smell of campuor goes away, don't forget to put the webbing in for at least a couple of bays. It's only 1/32nd and really stiffens the wing up.
