That is one sweet plane my friend. Is there any chance it could be upgraded with sub-micro components for better handling? Love to see everyones photos!

"build to fly not to crash"

on my kits like those i build the fus then sheet with 1/32 balsa (wet) then split the fus down the middle. then use dremel and sand away most of the kit stuff. sand the fus half's flat then re glue with wood glue. while its halfed you can get all your r/c gear in there.

for off the shelf r/c gear i use spektrum's ar 6300 6 channel reciever (2 grams), blue bird/blue arrow 2.5 and 3.6 gram servo's eflight's 10 amp speed ctrl. with lighter wire. eflight park 180 with a gws 5/3 or 5/3 prop and a 2 cell lipo 350 18c or 500 in 10c will do just fine. i just did a 40mm ducted fan with brushless motor and had an all up weight of 3.5 ounces.

there is some even smaller equipment out there but then your getting into the 4-500 dollar range.

i have been looking at the gullows f-14 for a twin ducted fan. it will have to have a bigger non scale wing but i could get one around 7-8 ounces and have about 6-7 ounces of thrust.

ORIGINAL: scale dail

Do I get a gold star? maybe a little late, this was way back in 1983. Guillows Hellcat, 32", 42oz., G-mark .061, 5 channels with flaps. back then all my planes were this size. this one flew like a pig and was retired after 2 flights. I still have it hanging in the den.

42 oz. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That must be a miss print!! It couldn't possibly fly at that weight - could it????

I tried a 1/12th Mustang with a .049 TD. I think it was in the high 20 oz range RTF without landing gear. The takeoffs were all belly scrapers, but it would fly OK if you were careful. I can't imagine what 42 ozs would have been like with less power. I think the planes CG would have to be perfect.

Have had good luck with G's kits and my engineering class of high school rookies.......just coach them to build light, sand stock wood to lighten, reduce aft fuse fomers to lighten tail, and stick to the high wingers to get best results.

Could replace some wood with less dense stuff to get more improvements, laminate outlines.
