Can anyone recommend an inexpensive video card & software that will accept standard analog video/audio input and convert to .mpeg format? I don't need a professional grade unit, just one that will do the job well enough to post videos and hopefully won't crash my system when installed. I have video editing equip. so I don't need extensive software editing capability.

Just go to http://www.pricewatch.com/ and click on video capture under the mutimedia menu.
Generic ones go as low as 17.00
High end ones go to round 700.00
heh most all come with some kind of software however
generally your fireware card will be the cheapest.
Just look through all of them there and decide what you want to spend.
If you do a second search in the video capture area using the word analog you will get farthure results.
Those cards generally start round 50.00 and go on up from there
