Another Sure Share XV Build
Afternoon all,
I just got my SSXV short kit from Dave yesterday. I've already got all my parts "cut" out and sanded up. I need to hit up the LHS to get the missing balsa and hardware. Dave, do you have a Tiled PDF version of the plan. I would love to print it out so I don't ruin my plan you provided with the kit. I'll be taking pictures as I go through the build, so keep an eye open.

RE: Another Sure Share XV Build
Dave,
I started framing up my wing today and I'm a bit lost. Ribs 3, 5, 7 and 9 all sit 1/8 of an inch above the TE. I still have the tabs on those 4 ribs, am I supposed to remove those? I alway though those were supposed to stay on till after you get it all glued together? Rib #1 still has the tab on it, but lines up directly with the TE.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jeremiah. Place a 3/32" shim under the root rib's tab:

The rear edges of the first two ribs are centered on the TE so that 3/32" sheeting can go on the top and bottom of the wing's center section.
Here's a photo.

Dave,
I'll take some pictures of what I'm talking about. If I put a 3/32 under my #1 it doesn't center it, it puts it above the TE. The 3,5,7 and 9 all do that without putting anything under the tabs. But if I cut the tabs off they line up with the TE.
It probably doesn't make any sense. I'll take some pictures.

Dave,
I'm working the wing still and I'm about ready to glue on the leading edge of the wing, which in the plans call for a 1/4" balsa. I'm holding the 1/4 up to it and there are some major gaps on all the ribs. And it doesn't look like there would be any room for gluing the sheeting down as well. Is it supposed to be 3/8 that I'm gluing in the front?
Thanks,
Jeremiah

Dave,
I've got both of my wing halves completed and I've test fitted the two of them together, but i'm getting some "negative" dihedral in the wings. I'm assuming this is bad?!?! Are the wings ends supposed to be flat on the build board when you glue them together? I would be gluing them together with the tops on the building board, or bottom up as it were. I'll take some pictures tonight and show you what I mean.
Thanks again,
Jeremiah

You may need to sand the root ribs a bit until the bottom edge of the dihedral brace is flush with the bottom edges of the main spars in both wing panels. This creates 1/4" of dihedral under each wing tip.
Test fit the dihedral brace and the two wing panels, sanding as necessary, until the root ribs of each panel butt together without any gaps and the ply brace is flush with the bottom spars. Take your time to get it right, but don't sand the dihedral brace, sand the wing panel roots. Then, you can smear epoxy on the brace and the root ribs and glue the two wing panels together. If the center joint between the two panels isn't perfect, don't worry. Fill any gaps with epoxy and then epoxy a 2" wide strip of fiberglass cloth around the joint.

I'm making the assumption the 1/4 inch of dihedral is when the wing is placed on the building board, bottom down?
