Looks like the Classic Pattern guys are beginning to get with the program. Check [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9078804/anchors_9078804/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#9078804]this thread.[/link]

Wow! That thread brought back a lot of memories. J&J used to be by me here in NJ, I remember going to a club meeting and Erine Wiess had the kit prototype for the Eyeball there. I had a Banshee 60 in the late 70's really a cool plane. I saw a 1/2a Eyeball in the 80's I think they called it an Eyelash.

I wonder if they even know that there's a 1/2A forum. I guess we'll find out if we see a sudden influx of mini pattern and small engine questions.

I think it's a great idea to base some designs on the ACE wings and the OS .10. These planes should fly pretty strong if the weight can be kept to a pound. There doesn't need to be much of a change from standard 1/2A onboard gear or airframe strength, so the biggest difference is obviously 2 extra ozs from the engine. A true pattern freak will come out with a light weight carbon pipe, let's hope......

These planes, like the Eyelash, Pacer, Mach None, along with the Baby Birdy, were built without landing gear, which means you do not land with the engine still running. You add gear, or retracts, then the extra power (and weight of throttle, servo and linkages), of say a .10, will get you about the same flights as you would have with a Tee Dee .049 without any landing gear.

Is this just about landing on wheels, or pattern flying?

There are many 1/2A pattern planes in the classic pattern forum, two threads are dedicated to PICORARE ( TIPORARE 1/2A version ) another one for a DECEPTION and some others.

For sure Rainedave knows about this forums as he is one active member in both, like me.

I just finished a 1/2A CURARE ( posted a thread in here ) a real missile

One problem with the OS10 is the weight, 5.4oz with the stock muffler is a bit ridiculous...
Even an old OS10 FSR would weight 5.1 oz with its stock muffler and that is steel/iron technology.

The Norvel .074 would be perfect though, 2.6 oz with muffler and about the same power.... [8D]
