Evolution is Revolusionary:
As coincidence would have it, I've been doing some research on an article I'm writing concerning "engine break-in". And, I had the opportunity to talk with the Chief Engineering Manager of Horizon Hobbies.
This guy is the number one man at Horizon when it comes to engines. The Evolution engine was his pet project for the past several years, and he gave me a great deal of information about the engine, its design, and the engineering that went into it.
I don't want to bore you with all the details, but suffice it to say, that the unique high silicone metalurgy, combined with the close tolerance manufacturing techniques, make this a truly incredible engine, that cannot be compared to most other engines out there.
It needs little or no break-in time, but should be run slightly rich initially. If you read, and follow, the instructions that came with your engine, you'll do just fine, and get many years of service.
This engine truly represents the "state of the art" in modern engine design, while other engines out there are still using the same techniques, designs, and metalurgy that existed years ago.
You won't be disappointed.
(NOTE: I'm not connected with Horizon in any way, I was just doing some investigative journalism, and these were some of the results.)

evoloution engines ????
well, i broke it in today, if you could call it that, LOL. hardly any break-in time at all, and man is it powerfull, i like this one better then the O.S. 46 and it a heck of a lot cheaper to.
i'm really impressed with the design, and quality of this engine, i haven't heard anything bad about them so far.
thanks, rayko

well, they did kinda go a little overboard with the fins, but it kinda grows on ya after awhile, (like a fungus LOL)
with the performance it has, i can live with the fins

RE: Fin Design
It is interesting to note that during my interview with the Managing Engineer, he took great pride in the innovative fin design, that visually accentuated the differences between their evolution engine, and all the other ones out there.
Isn't it funny, that Horizon is taking great pride in their fin design, and some folks out there are put off by it....
Perception and taste are a funny thing.... But, the quality remains no matter what you think of its appearance.

i agree, the fins will go well with my tiger II project i'm working on, i just wish there was a way to get a black and gold version of the engine, but oh well,
i'm really impressed with the throttle response, the high speed adjust, and the seperate idle adjust, also, i think it has awesome top end.
my only neg so far was the baffle, i took it out and that seemed to unleash it a little more.
going out this weekend to buy another one !

LOL, i know some people don't like the fins, there allright, but they do add some weight issue's, i'm balanced with a mag 46 no extra weight added, but with the EVO i had to put 2oz in the tail.
but more power, more power !!!!!!!!!
but more power, more power !!!!!!!!!

ohcustoms:
Are you running with or without the flywheel? If with. there's your weight difference.
I don't think the fins would make any real weight difference.
Bill.
