AMEN, brothers and sisters, amen. The Kaotic-cat is also at that stage where all the glitches seem to be coming out of the woodwork.....as soon as I find that (%&#**^&#) radio glitch and fix it, we're in the air. I'll give the AP Wasp some airtime before I switch to a Profi. The difference should be astounding.

A week has gone by, any progress? I'm not much better. I'll let repairs get in the way of progress on new projects. Looks like a neat airplane though.

Lo and behold, with the NC speed rally looming on the horizon I got at it again.. fitted the vertical stab, bought HS-65HB's and a Berg Rx, now just to fit the radio and fuel system. Oh yeah and the ailerons, but all in all not much to do. CP's Yellow Menace vid got the fingers twitching.
I'll put a 300mAh NiMH behind the firewall, and the bladder tube will sit behind that. What to do with that pesky 72mHz antenna though.. mebbe the wound around a straw trick and only half of it loose. No way I could fly this little thing much farther than 1000' feet out anyhow.
I still think it will come in between 10-11 oz. Hope it has enough power.

It looks a LOT like My old Pilot Cobra kit. It came on a bag, not a box, and was for 1/2 Norvel power. Didn't last long... was so fast it got 7 moves ahead of me in about half-a-heartbeat. Thumbs were still flopping everywhere after it augered in and the dust had already settled[] Trust me,.. if it's anything like the Cobra,.. it WILL be FAST![X(] Bob

The inspiration for this model can in fact be traced in part to the Cobra, though they don't really look that much alike. I have the plans for the Cobra always within reach in the shop so I can go "hmmm, maybe I should build one or something like it". The Cobra is a hair smaller yet, but the fuselage could stand to be thinned down a bit. It was designed some time ago when micro gear was not so readily available and compact. A buddy built one for electric but it has some "issues" that so far have rendered it unflyable.
The wing cores for this model are actually stolen from an Estes Astro Blaster kit.. it's some modified SD something or other that seems pretty clean and works well enough. I used a section from the middle of each panel making the span 26" and took out the sweep.
One of those ~20" span Cobras on a honking 1cc would be a severe test of pilot skill and eyesight.

GeeeeEEEEEeeeeeeeze! Ok.. send me the measurements, & I'LL bend You some dog-gone pushrods!! I'll send you 4 screws,(or industrial strength velcro if you like speed changing your engines) I'll start a collection here to see if I can't get you enough for a new 300A batt, or try writing sponsors for you to see if they'll donate one. If THAT, isn't enough to embarrass you into some pretty quick flight photos, or vidios,.. I'll just have to give up.[] Bob

It's coming along fine.. el servo installed, working on the aileron servo mount to keep it all compact to leave room for the batt and bladder tube. Beyond that it is screwing it together. Should be ready for NC. If it comes down to it though, the .65 delta is priority for June 26.

DL,
I know Rex is a long ride...to anywhere, but are you thinking of coming to the Rally?

DL,
We will be racing in Julian this Saturday if you are interested. It's much closer to you. Feel free to pm me.
Back on topic.
Mike, the guys in the club don't think you will be done in time to collect that 200 sticker either. [>:]

Bite me, I'm plugging away at it! Tell those non-believers I've dedicated my spare time entirely to the project.

O.K., I tried the AP Wasp; like all of you said, it SUX! Won't stay running off the lighter, and doesn't make RPM like the test stand did. What gives? I'm going to order a TT .7 and see what that does. Meantime, the 150-ish is just about ready for maiden. O.S..15 should be enough power to make it go.

Hey! make sure you have her dialed in! I will be visiting you this summer you know, If I ever get that bladder tank from you so I can get my Q125 racer back in the air. I just re-built it and its now got a Picco on the nose waiting for a tank!

You guys notice that even the rubber bands are color coordinated? Red and blue to match the airplane? Sheesh.. now THAT'S attention to detail!

LOL!! Too bad I crashed it again, in a rush to try and fly it with a terrible tank I forgot to trim out my ailerons... HA. tank was leaky (I knew it before hand) and she died mid flight while I was trying to trim her straight.... Ran out of field so I had to hit the deck at a fastish speed.....
How about that balloon tank MLD

Oh guys, so harsh, so unforgiving..
DW: TANKS! Oh yeah! Oops.
Okay, so June-July-August was pretty much write off for hobby activity. Work work work, plus vacation with family. But over the last week I've been puttering again in the shop finally. This is a good sign that life's normal rhythym may be in sight again.
So on this project.. progress this week:
- mounted aileron servo, installed linkages (I do tend to paint myself in corners by designing as I build.. but I got it licked)
- elevator servo and control horn fitted
- drilled and blind nutted the firewall
- final clearcoat on fuselage
To do:
- some color trim on wing
- elevator linkage
- bladder tube made, fitted
- cover, hinge ailerons (torque rods are in though)
- mount engine again
- install Rx and battery
then:
- fly the danged thing!

Almost there.
Everything on the scale (including the ailerons) and missing only the elevator linkage, a small hatch and bladder tube/bladder, is sitting at 274 grams / 9.7 ounces. So it should come in around 11oz. Power to weight ought to be okay.. [:-]
