Hi. I grew up flying R/C, mostly sailplanes. I started with a "Kraft" radio, before Futaba was even born. Once Futaba came into the scene I bought ONLY Futaba radios and equipment. In my mind, they are the best and most reliable.
I am getting back into R/C sailplane flying after about a 15 year hiatus. I am looking at purchasing the new FASST system 2.4 Ghz radio, probably in 6 channel setup, with 3 or 4 servos to start. I know nothing about the new radios, and frankly, am quite confused by the plethora of servo choices. It boggles the mind! I need someone to TELLme what servos I want.
What I will be doing with the radio. I will start by flying a House of Balso 2X6 with rudder and standard elevator control. I will incorporate spoiles in the wing, but will probably leave them inoperable in the beginning. Once flying like a pro again, I plan on getting into slope racing and aerobatics with one or more of the "hotter" smaller ships available. With that in mind, I need to know what set-up I want in (mostly) servo choices, but also in receiver and flight pack battery. I want good, quality, precise control. Nothing worse than having your rudder trimmed for a site, make a few passes and turns, and suddenly your trim is off again. I recall that older radios did this as normal operation. Just something we had to deal with. Do cheaper servos still do that?
So, please, get me started on a FEW choices, not hundreds. BOTTOM LINE QUESTIONS:
With the FASST 2.4 6 channel:
What receiver do I get? Is there only one to worry about?
What battery flight pack?
WHATSERVOS do I want??? Not huge, not too expensive!
Thanks very much!
A loyal FUTABA customer,
Robert
