Still recommending going to various diesel specialist shops and asking for a job. Don't call; GO. Tell them what you're doing now, tell them what you want to do. Make contact with the shop manager/foreman/whatever they may call the guy at that particular place and shake his hand. Personal contact is the only way to fly in that industry (or any, really).
