Default RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

The AMA is not going to grow, it is going to have to seriously downsize. The model hobby has just changed too much to support it in the style it has become accustomed to. That's neither good nor bad, that's just how it is and they are going to have to deal with it. Many of the things the AMA offered are now pretty much irrelevant. Members will probably be increasingly hard to come by. Just like many businesses that were once profitable in the model field have failed or been taken over, AMA is the same way. It has to fulfill a need to exist, and that need isn't as great. It reminds me of all the kit manufacturers that have gone out of business or been taken over. The new tower catalog only has a dozen or so kits, and very few Goldberg kits. Those kits were very popular once. There must not be a great market for that stuff any more. AMA sells magazines, plans and insurance mostly. Must not be that great a market for that either. The internet takes the place of magazines, and many of the planes sold today, electrics and park flyers, don't seem all that dangerous and are not going to motivate people to get insurance for. So the times they are a changin . . .
