LOWER COSTS!
When the plane you're flying cost as much as the insurance to fly it, it ought to drive a point home that the cost is too high. I fly gas as well as electric and everyone knows the damage that can be ensued from a gas plane versus an electric. This is not to say that electrics can not hurt people as we know that the LIPO planes have come a long way and can equal their gas counterparts in size. However, in terms of comparing a starter glow plane versus a starter electric plane, we have a much lighter craft that ought to be able to carry less liability although I doubt anyone is going to offer a tiered insurance plan for RC anything.
The next consideration ought to be making the magazine optional. In all fairness what is the cost of the insurance versus the cost of the magazine? About 75% magazine and 25% insurance? There was a thread somewhere out there about feelings of who would take an insurance only program. Never heard back on that one. As for trial membership, this was offered and probably is still offered. It is a good way to let people get thier feet wet. Again by lowering costs...
Does the AMA really care that the numbers are not growing or that they may be missing newer potential enrollees? I think if anyone in the AMA were really concerned they would take some action and make some changes.

Andy,
It could appear that AMA doesn't really care that the numbers are not growing. Then again, it could be that there really is nothing they or anyone can do to stop this dedine in membership. This thread and the other one thread (Solutions to AMA's membership decline) provides proof that there is no solution.
If it is true that AMA is us, then there are several schools of thought.
1. Some of us (AMA) don't think there is a lack of growth problem.
2, Some of us (AMA) don't want to be bothered.
3. Some of us (AMA) just want to argue and reject any ideas.
4. Some of us (AMA) feel growth is the AMA's job and not our's. Oops
5. Some of us (AMA) feel there is no solution.
6. Some of us (AMA) really doesn't want AMA to grow.
