RE: Parkzone f4U Corsair Rtf
Well, my initial disappointment and pessimism about the crash have had a week to subside. I went to the LHS Sunday and was very close to buying either a Stinson or a Habu to replace the Corsair, but I thought about it again, and instead left with a new prop, cowl, & motor mount for the Corsair (they didn't have an elevator in-stock); you guy's input convinced me to go ahead and attempt to rebuild my crashed Corsair. After I got home for the weekend and looked again, it turned out I did recover the couple pieces that I thought had been lost, so I still have all non-replacable portions of the fuse and wing are. This evening, I spent 3+ hours putting the wing back together with lots of reinforcing; the gullwing design makes it very difficult to install extra bracing at the glued joint when the break happens right at the top of the bend. As a previous Corsair flyer did, I used 3 short sticks of 1/8" balsa to go through the top of the wing and as far into the "bent" part as I could before they would come out the bottom of the wing, then CA'd the bejesus out of it, and topped it all off with 3M clear packing tape from tip-to-tip along the center of the wing, as well as along the leading edges, and also re-secured the left aileron servo. Wing seems pretty solid now, hopefully after full curing it will be better than new.
I'm hoping the fuse will get patched back together tomorrow (with any luck, a bit quicker, otherwise all the time spent outweighs the money I would've spent, lol), and I'll be crossing my fingers that the ESC and motor will still function. If all electronics are still good, and the plane does fly again, I'll have had a NASTY crash and only had to buy a new prop, cowl, motor mount, elevator, & lost a Flightmax 3s 2200mAh LiPo. Not bad I suppose. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
