Default RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread

Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

But I think there is a misunderstanding people thinking a 2 speed is faster then a single speed. And when I mean faster I'm refereeing to TOP speed.

Let me see if I can explain:this is an example.

If you are using single speed 16/49 top speed is 45mph, it takes you 8 seconds to reach that speed- example only

You go to a 2-speed clutch bell 13/16 and a 46/49 spur gear your top speed will still be the same, however it will get you faster to the top speed of 45mph - maybe 6 seconds (another example) it doesn't make you any faster, but will get you to top speed faster.

Every motor is different it will get to a point that the motor just can't go any faster, regardless of what gear you put in it.
If you start putting high gears you will lose torque and TOP speed will not increase....it will actually decrease because the motor just can't reach it's peak RPM
You really have to test to see what gear is best for each specific motor.

i just posted this so people don't get disappointing by going to a 2 speed thinking they will have a TOP speed world record car...it takes more than just putting in a 2-speed tranny.
Choosing the right gearing and tuning makes a big difference.
