Default RE: tmaxx 3.3 new engine questions

ORIGINAL: ejc34710

Ok fellas. I recently bought a used tmaxx 3.3 off craigslist. Its a pretty good truck but the engine is realllllly startin to get on my nervers. It won't hold a tune, one minute its fine, the next its too rich to run the next its at or around 300 degress. Usually runs around 250ish with plenty of power, but im tired of this inconsistence. I really think im gonna get a new engine for this thing. Definatly want something bigger, over .21 but what do you guys suggest. I'd like to keep engine cost below 200 bucks but im looking for something consistent that i can get broke in and not have to worry about it every time i want to drive it. I know ill have to get engine mounts, but is there anytthing else i'll need? Will the pullstart clear the tank? Will the 3.3 clutch, clutch bell and flywheel work? Will the linkage line up? Will the exhaust clear the rear shock tower? And will the drivetrain have any trouble with the added power?

I know alot of you have converted engines so any feedback as to what to get or what to expect would be greatly appreciated. Also, any of you guys have similar problems with your 3.3s? Can't find any airleaks, tank has no holes, new fuel line, filter ok, seals in needles ok, air filter clean. I'm using LC3 plug and tried OS 8 without much difference. Like i said, it won't hold a tune and i have to keep the idle up pretty high to keep it from stalling. Occasionaly after i floor it for a bit and let go of throttle, it will just die. Not hitting the brakes, even if i was the idle is set right so that wouldnt matter. Its getting frustrating, i've been messing with thesse car engines for 15+ years and have never had this many problems, not even out of a trx .15. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
That many problems, the 3.3 is shot. I had a 3.3 I bought brand new and thing ran like a raped ape. Just freakin' Insane. If you have the money, It would be worth it to buy a brand new engine and start over with something new. I had an O.S. .21 that I could mount on my tmaxx's. They are old threads but I could get them and post them if you need it. The hardest part will be finding a Big Block Motor Mount. Or if your good with aluminum, you could make a mount yourself. I loved the Big Block power. It was slightly better then the 3.3. But 3.3's are meant to run.
