Default RE: Question about Radio

ORIGINAL: jeffriesm

While we are on the topic of radios and specifically moving up to 2.4 Mhz. Be careful with Spektrum and JR DSM2. Has anyone seen intermittent communications problems with the DSM2 equipment. I have personally had a plane go in when suddenly the transmitter lost link to the plane. When I got to the wreckage, the plane was responding again. Yesterday I witnessed the same thing with someone flying JR. The plane suddenly stopped responding and when we got to the crash site, everything was responding again. Both events happened at different fields, one was Spektrum and one was JR. Nothing in common between the two events expect DSM2 equipment. I am not sure what to make of it. Has anyone seen similar behavior with the DSM2 equipment? If you are going to 2.4 might want to research Futaba over JR.
I think these reports about DSM2 issues are over rated. I've had not one problem with my DX6i. It's been a rock of reliability. Just charge up your rx battery before flight and you should be fine. The fact that your rx was still responding likely points to something else that caused the crash such as a mechanical failure or pilot error. I can honestly say every crash I've had was pilot error.
