Default RE: Digital vs Analog Servos

ah you open another minefield. When is a digital a digital and when it is not..?

Well what we refer to as digitals servo's often are nothing more than zooted up analogue with a IC type circuit instead of caps and resistors. These digital servo's can be no better than an analogue if used with a reciever of low speed. Its fairly pointless using an expensive digital servo and the reciever sends a low bit command to it.

Then there is the coreless digital which IMO is a true digital since it uses a stepper motor instead of a gearbox. These are are super fast, have massive holding torque and have a price tag to match! These are over kill for anything smaller than 30% scale aerobatic planes and reall y come into their own in the larger 3D type aerobats.

The basic, simple digital with gearbox is usually good enough for smaller aerobats since they still centre more accurately.
But for high torque coreless is the way to go.
