I've used both as well as masking tape and duct tape and all are no good over the long run except the dental floss. But you have to cut it off each time and then fiddle with threading it through the wires. When you've got a bunch to do it is too tedious - although I've done it that way for years.
But these clips are really neat - easy and quick to use and very positive. Cummon - you'd spend a fortune on any engine do-dad so 35cents isn't too bad. 30 cents is for the idea and 5 cents is the cost. My buddy went out and spent a fortune on two gas motors and then complained like hell at the club raising dues $10.00 because we now have two fields and he only flies at one of them!! We RC hobbyists are known as the cheapest bunch around - and we all know it. Electical tape indeed !!!!
<hr />Youcan clean things you know! I thinkit would be very easy to use a very small rag with some alcohol like you can buy at wally world. A bottle will last a very long time.
Just clean where the tape was once in a while....nothing to it..................Capt,n
