Default old rcm 40 trainer as a gift

dont know, its an very old prob late 70's "o.s." 45 still "pop"s when you spin the prop, carb all stuck had been hanging in his shop for prob 15plus years!!!!, fuse is fully sheeted, then monocoated red and white, wings are monocoated white with red tips, only has 1 small spot on the left wing tip that needs a monocoate patch, and 1 very small tear in the white wing top monocote, otherwise all is very tight..as a drum.... once i wiped all the dust off it it looks brand new!!! i plan before i buy a new engine to take the old os apart and soke it lube it, reassemble it put new glowplug in it and gas it up on the engine stand and spin her over and lets see what happens,,,, would love to use the orig engine some say since it still "pops" once it fires it will come back up to compression we'll see any advise?
