yes plug and mold making is a option and you will find it to can become costly and time intensive to start from scratch.....
I would assume it would be similar to entering a new hobby where you have to start fresh. At first it is very expensive, but after you have collected the right tools over time, the cost becomes lighter and easier to bear, much like where I am at now as opposed to first starting modeling.

The end might be worth the initial investment if balsa becomes too difficult to aquire.
