I finally cut out the hinge slots for the rudder, I plan on using 3 Dubro Nylon Hinges for it so it can take the stress. I bought myself a Slot Machine by GreatPlanes. Wow, I really like it- It beats doing it by hand. It does take a bit to get used to at first.
Once the rudder and fuse slots were done I did the elevators and horizontal stabilizer. I did a bit more sanding and filling and I got everything lined up. I noticed a sizable gap between the fuse and where the horizontal stabilizer meet up. (factory mess up)
So once again I shaped a piece of balsa and CA glued it in place and smoothed everything out. I then put everything together temporarily to make sure everything looked right, then I took everything a part and I'm storing the elevators and rudder until I'm ready to cover them.
I made a small tail skid support inside the aft part of the fuse. It also helps me get the angle right- matching what the full size DR1 had. I'm currently making the fake tail skid bungee shock right now. Later I'll be making the brass bands and skid plate that goes on the skid out of aluminum and will be painting it brass do to it's not a working system.
This is slowly moving along... I'm in no rush.
