Default RE: Saito Rocker Covers Needed?

ORIGINAL: TSky28

My FA-50GK covers are just about destroyed. I had a gear failed belly land on pavement with an inverted mounted engine. The covers saved the rockers but the plane pretty much skidded 70 feet on a the tail wheel and rocker covers.

Are the rocker covers necessary? Can I continue to fly with out them or do they serve a purpose other than keeping the outside world outside the engine?

Also? One push rod popped out of the bottom of the rocker arm. I just pushed it back in to place without much effort. Is this bad?

Cheers boys.
you have it figured out pretty well

in the crash one rocker arm was held "in" and the pushrod jumped out. It didn't hurt anything.

The engine will run fine without the covers. It is your engine?
