RE: Plane in tree
This thread reminds me of a funny story.
My Dad and Iwere messing around on a 4th of July weekend a number of years ago flying a park flyer around the yard and he hung it up in the highest tree in on the 40acres of property. We tried using one of the bows with fishing line and a partial draw but neither of us could get the right shot at the branches the plane was hung up in. we worked and worked and worked at it for near to 2 hrs and finally had to call no joy. So we went into the shop and puzzled it out over a couple of beers. Iwas lookin around and there was a Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle that was used for the occasional squirrel that tries to nest up in the shop by tearing apart the insulation. Now remeber its 4th of July at my parents house on 40 acres.. we go out to the back and while he uses binos for spotting my hits, I start shooting branches.. again, this takes a while and we burned a little more than 100 rounds and no less than 8 branches to get this plane out of the tree. While we were doing this.. one of the closer neighbors calls the house and tells my mom that the kids from a nearby trailer court were lighting firecrackers on the back part of the land. My mother said, "oh no, its just Crag and Kirby shooting an airplane out of a tree that Crag got stuck". The woman who called, who had known my Dad since long before I was born replied, "he's never going to grow out of being a kid is he?" We still bray like jack*****es when that story is recalled.
I would also like to add that we were shooting in a safe direction and the adjacent property was all forest service land that had no development and there was no danger of any shots carrying into someone's back yard to hit some kid. Ethics in proper firearm safety were practiced.
