Yes, I have been using it ina HobbyKing spitfire.. (not a heli) it has been perfectly reliable and is identical to the Spektrum 6100E... It does not need a satellite RX..

A friend of mine also uses them exclusively in several fixed wing aircraft.. we have flown to the limits of visibility with no issues.. I'd trust one in a heli...
