I've been "getting away with it" for at least 2 years on 72 MHz PCM and 2.4 systems. In my experience and opinion IBEC devices are completely unnecessary. Power for my ignitions on all 50cc and smaller planes comes directly from my Rx, on 100cc planes it comes from the power expander.
