Engine Help
Hi,
if you can get one, the best engines are either the Hanno or the webra 80 rear exhaust. You may be able to pick one up second hand, not sure where you'd look though.
I flew mine with an OS 91fx mounted inverted with a side-to-rear (swan neck) manifold and a bolly pipe. It looked neat, with just the alloy header ducking out and then back in, a bit like many of the YS 140 installations on the big planes! I sent the geometry of the plane and engine installation to just engines and they made a very nice looking custom manifold and it really was a neat installation. Unfortunately the plane met with terra firma a couple of years ago due to a radio problem, or I would send you a picture.
Or, you could try using the standard muffler, I am sure you would have plenty of power. If it was me I'd mount the engine canted over so the exhaust is lined up with the fuz centreline, I'd rather see a cylinder head sticking out than an exhaust!
I would recommend the IIS, it is a later design with a bigger fuz and flies better than the earlier versions although they all fly great. It's a superb plane, one of the best from the early 90s and I would thoroughly recommend it.
