No. The DX5e is a perfectly fine full range TX that is more than capable of handling the T28. Parkzone bundles a DX5e with several models in their RTF configuration.

Is the AR 500 a crap receiver?
No, they are not crap. AR500s work just fine. They are built on the same assembly line as the more expensive receivers. I used an AR500 in my PZ Mustang BL with my DX6i and flew it out to just a speck in the sky with never a problem. I would have no problem using one in my nitro models too. I know some folks that have used AR500 in their 25% gassers
